Scratched teflon in the pot ok?

Hi,
My mom uses a pressure cooker to cook rice and keep the rice warm in the electric rice cooker. I noticed that there were scratches on the rice cooker pot. The pot is coated with teflon. Is it okay to keep rice in the pot? I told her to throw it away and she got very upset. She thinks I'm too paranoid.
But If she bought a new one, it would be also lined with new teflon, which isn't healthy anyway. I wonder if that is any better. Hers is at least 10yrs old.

Thanks.

Basically your options are to eat the teflon that is flaking off into the food, buy new teflon, thereby indicating to manufacturers that making everything teflon coated is okay with your dollar (as well as contributing to our disposable society), or learn to make rice in a pan (or stop eating it). I can't make the decision for you, but I know which one I'd go with.

And yes that Teflon peeling off is hazardous to your health.

I wonder how long the rice keeps warm? I want to be able to cook rice in the morning and eat warm rice until the evening. But I haven't found the one without teflon that does it.

I also wonder if rice gets stuck too much in the staninless steel pot and if it is difficult to clean. Thanks!

it is easy enough to clean. i just soak it, scrub it out and throw it in the dishwasher. but i don't think it will keep rice warm all day. we usually turn it off when it turns onto warm so the rice does not burn on the bottom. there is definitely some convieniances to the new toxic technology that we have to give up in order to lead a less cancer causing life, is what i have found (like giving up waffles, which was a great use for teflon but i am not willing to use teflon anymore at all)
