Just say it's croup...most people don't know the difference and there is no vax for it...so what can they say?

My story too!
DS 8 months, no vax's no sicknesses until....I was at a friends house and her son had a cold (argh!!!) she didn't tell me until after, and my DS was checking out her DS's teeth then putting his hands in his own mouth, so we have a runny nose, but still sleeping through the night and napping...fingers crossed!

My kids have never been vaxed for anything.

dd1, who is 3 years old: Nothing until 9 months (when we went to Chicago via airplane, I certain that's why she got sick)
2 ear infections, not treated with antibiotics, just breastmilk and garlic oil in the ear. High fever (104.5 was the highest!!!) Motrin for pain relief.
6ish colds, no fever, just runny nose for a few days.
1 Viral tummy bug at 20 months, runny poo and vomiting for 4 days!

dd2, who is 3 months old:
1 cold (from big sister) just stuffy nose, no fever or anything else

I am always amazed at how differently non-vaxed kids fight infection. I'm pretty lax about fevers, and let them get high without medicating. Unless she is in pain or under a lot of stress, I don't normally do motrin. She will spike a HIGH fever for 12 hours and then she is fine. None of her colds have dragged on and on like I see in vaxxed kids. Interesting.

That's probably where your LO got it... Apparently pertussis "season" is July-September, which coincidentally is the same season where croup runs through daycares.... (I was doing vaccine research while my 3yo's were napping last year.... and listening to half of them cough...)

dd in not vaxed and made it to her 1st b-day without any illness... her 1st b-day was a month ago, and since then...

i put her in daycare (aka, the petri dish) part time (less than 20 hour a week) the week of her 1st b-day

within the 1st week she had an upper respiratory infection with a really high fever. had green snot for about a week and a lingering cough for about 2 weeks.

over the last few days, she's been teething something awful, mid-grade fever x 48+ hours, and last night it manifested into an ear infection- i ended up taking her to the ER b/c of her shrill cry and elevating temp, but the ear infection was caught super early according to the doc. i'm taking her to her DO tomorrow to get an adjustment to help the drainage in her ear. she's actually in really good spirits despite this :

that's it so far *knocks on wood*, i'm just hoping dd doesn't fall ill every month like this on a regular basis.

DD1 wasn't sick that much until her sister was born, now we are always sick. Both have had chicken pox, pertussis, RSV, numerous colds, stomach bugs, for the last two years, we have have sick more often then not. DD2 has respiratory issues (from an illness) and tends to pick up every germ none to man and pass it around the family.

my youngest is my only completely vax free one. he'll be 1 on sunday.

so far he's had...
-numerous colds
-pink eye
-1 double ear infection

not awful, but certainly not sickie-free either.

My 26 month old preemie twins have had very minor colds (runny nose mainly) 4 times since birth, all while teething....
