Knit Teddy Bear?

My SIL is having twins (boy & girl) this fall, and I want to knit them teddy bears. What yarn should I make these from? I am thinking of stuffing the heads with wool, so should I choose a wool yarn? Or an organic cotton? Should I not stuff with wool, but just a regular stuffing?

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

I have decided to use this pattern.

Cute pattern!

When I make stuffed toys, I usually just stuff them with scrap yarn. It's worked so far.

Well, my concern would be care and maintenance if I made the bear from anything other than acrylic or cotton. And caring for the inside. I suppose I could use wool yarn, but I really don't have much scrap laying around. I wanted to stuff at least the heads with wool because it retains the smell properties (like a Waldorf Doll).

I love that pattern. It's on my to knit list.

I would stick with acrylic or cotton, too. That way if/when it gets dirty it can easily be washed.
