I don't have a recipe for you but in our house we LOVE the California Baby bubble baths.

They are kind of expensive but you can get them in bulk bottles. We don't use them for every bath so they last a bit longer.

We use plant-based dish soap as bubble bath. The almond or pear scented Dishmate makes particularly pleasant-smelling bubbles, and it's never caused any irritation for my son or me. (We do not have sensitive skin, though.) Swish it thoroughly into the water for best results.

I'm not sure I'd be very comfortable with the above. Dishmate really isn't meant to be used to clean bodies...only hard surfaces. Dishmate does have 1,4-dioxane in it so I guess it would greatly depend on how comfortable you are being exposed to that and what the 1,4-dioxane residues are in some of the other bubble bath products out there.

ETA: We've used Aura Cacia's foaming bath for kids in the past. I've been trying to figure out if they have 1,4-dioxane in them or not, but so far Frontier hasn't responded. None of them were listed on the cosmetics database so I did them through their "add" feature and it seems that the preliminary report put the Cheering and Clearing as a "2" (pretty low hazard) and the Calming as a "3".

Some brands that they list as a "0" (the lowest score they can gete)are:
Earth Mama Angel Baby Bath Blossoms
Earth Tribe Tribe Kids Pure Botanical Baby Shampoo and Bath Gel (they say this can also be used as a bubble bath)

You can try looking brands up yourself at www.cosmeticdatabase.com. That way you can view the score yourself and decide whether or not you think it's "safe" for your family.

Miracle II soap is a pain in the neck to buy, but is really wonderful as bubble bath. It's high in Magnesium and is considered quite beneficial to your skin and body as a whole.

There are distributors you have to find, or you can buy off Ebay. Ebay can be cheaper if you search well.

Only their Almond scent did and the company found the supplier that was giving them "tainted" bitter almond and no longer has a contract with that supplier. By May 1st, all soap with the 1,4 dioxane was weeded out.

Thanks for the specifics about 1,4-dioxane. As far as dish soap being only for cleaning hard surfaces: It also is designed to be safe to immerse your hands in. I know that's a matter of "voluntary compliance" for manufacturers and they can't all be trusted, but they ARE thinking about skin exposure in designing the product. I switched from mainstream to plant-based dish soap for dishwashing about 9 years ago (have used various brands, Dishmate being a favorite) and the plant-based kind is a lot easier on my hands. That doesn't mean everyone will be able to sit in a tub of it and have no irritation of more sensitive body parts--it is a strong soap--but I've found it less irritating than mainstream bubble bath.
