Please help me with dinnerware (stainless?)for the kids?

OK so I am getting rid of all plastic "tableware" for my kids. WE just got rid of all the "plastic" sippy cups here
Right now I have a 17 month old and an almost 4 yr old. They are both very rough and drop their cups/plates alot so I dont think ceramic or glass is ok for us right now...
My questions are-

Is stainlless steel what is best?
Is SS ok to use for regular dinnerware? Does it tarnish or get rusty or will cutting with a knife "cut into it?"

Is it practical to have
plates. bowls, cutlery and tumblers for them?

Please tell me your experience and the pros and cons of this? TY

i think SS would be fine. nova naturals sells some pretty enamel dinnerware for kids.

we've always used fiestaware (ceramic) and never had any worries.

Stainless steel is great. In India it is all they use for eating - plates, bowls, cups, everything is stainless steel. It is very durable and you should not worry about that. Indian stores are also a good place to look for SS stuff if you have one in your area.

I bought all of ours at academy in the camping section. Plates were $2.00 and the cups were just under $4.00. LOVE THEM.
