Non-seamstress needs help hemming pants!

So, I bought some new maternity pants on Tuesday (100% polyester) and asked my mom to hem them. She said she would, but when she sat down to do it, she realized that they couldn't just be turned up and hemmed like she normally would do; they need to be cut, a "finishing stitch" on the end, and then hemmed. So, now the pants are back in my non-skilled hands. I bought them to wear on Sunday since I've outgrown all of my regular clothes and need something to wear.

Is there something that I can iron on and make them stick? If so, what is it called. And, if not, any suggestions for emergency hemming?

TIA for your help!

A quick fix is an iron on strip which 'glues' the fabric together. Here its called Bondaweb or Wundaweb or something like that. You can probably find it with a similar name where you are.

Awesome. That would be perfect! Is that a permanent fix, or is it something that can be undone so it can be hemmed the right way?

I don't think it is a long lasting permanent solution as washing probably decreases the amount of stickiness over time. You would have to be careful about how much you cut off and stuck if you were planning to hem them properly later.

I have hemmed this kind of thing by hand in the past and will need to do dh's suit trousers this week as the hem has come down on one leg. I use invisible nylon thread and a catch stitch. Here's a video http://www.monkeysee.com/play/2150-s...e-catch-stitch
