hemp/Procare vs. Flannel/Wool reusable nursing pads?

this isn't exactly a diapering topic, but some materials are used for diapers....

When nursing Avery I discovered that washable nursing pads are the way to go. However I didn't start using them until later on, so I wasn't leaking as much. Right now I have hemp jersey ones and even when wearing two on one breast I still leak through. that's with 4 layers in all! Need some new ones, lol!

So on ebay I've found ones that have one layer of hemp french terry, and a layer of Procare. The other onces have a two layers of flannel and a layer of wool in the middle.

which ones would be more leakproof? I've never seen/felt procare, so I'm not sure what the texture is, does it make a swishy sound? I've heard good things about the wool, but would they hold enough leaks?

thanks!

I don't know much about the hemp french terry or procare. But I do know that flannel feels good against the skin & wool is wonderful! Wool is VERY difficult to soak all the way through & also has a natural antibacterial quality from the lanolin.

I'd do wool. You need some breathability. Procare doesn't breath at all.

What do you sew together with the wool? Would hemp jersey work? I want to make some but I'm not sure how they are put together. Do you make them with a layer of something else against your skin, or just all wool?

thanks for the replies!

I ended up getting the flannel/wool ones. The thought of the procare, being hot and thick under my bra didn't seem appealing. I really hope the wool/flannel ones work out. I'm looking forward to trying them.

I found a seller on ebay who sells hemp/wool ones, so I would say that hemp jersey would work. I wanted to try those, I think they were $16.00 for 6 and the wool/flannel ones I got were $8.99 for 10. Trying to be frugal, lol.

But I've seen ones that are all wool also, depends on what you like the feel of I guess. Hemp would only make them better!

But how do you wash the wool ones? Wouldn't they have to be washed with lanolin to prevent leaking? And if so, won't that lanolin make the flannel have a funky feel to it??
