So come May 15th, we're cutting the cable off. It just keeps getting more expensive and DH and I can't justify it. I think my kids are going to be fine... I worry about me! TV is my unwind time after the babies are in bed.
Is there a hobby you've always wanted to try? Do you have any books or magazines waiting to be read? Got any friends who are awake at that time and might wish to chat? Keep yourself busy for the first two weeks. After that, you'll find your groove! ENJOY YOUR NEWFOUND TIME!!!
You can always rent movies via Netflix for the computer, download things for free on many sites, heck you can watch the Daily Show with Jon Stewart on the comedy central web site even if you need a tube fix.
Congrats on unplugging, keep us posted on how it goes!
We went cold-turkey too, about a month ago. Best thing we've ever done! Even my husband says he doesn't miss the tv, and we used to watch it EVERY night. Our evenings seem so much better now, like we have so much more time.
You can always do what I did before I went TV free[ish?] Pick out the few shows you really love to watch every week. Watch them on the internet the next day or download a torrent. Yay no ads. I have links to TV episode sites. I won't post them here in case that's against the rules.
I guess I don't consider myself TV free yet cause I still watch stuff online. My shows are: America's Next Top Model, Lost, American Idol, and South Park.
