Spiritual Midwifery - Anyone feeling Psychedelic yet

Me and DH have been reading the 'Revised for the 90's' version by Ina May Gaskin and I have to say we get a big kick out of it.

I like how it redefines the aspects of birth from scary pain to rushes and riding waves and what not.

But I also crack up at the language. Although my DH says he's trying really hard to be "tantric with his lady".

I'm feeling goofy, I'm stuck at work for another hour and ruminating on things.

OT: did I mention that my OB is guessing little man to be 8 lbs already.... I grow 'em big (DS was 8lbs 9 oz and 21 in)

So, you and DH plan on passionately kissing your way through labor?? LOL

Yes, I am enjoying the language too! Now, are you 'giving him some' and vice versa? And you know I don't mean sex!

I am just amazed at some of the situations they were in too... like "I climbed down the ladder and lit the lamp, hiked 1/2 mile to the phone, and then sat on the bucket outside to poop" or something.

Yep, I plan on "having a real good time with my old man."

Thankfully pooping in a bucket should NOT be necessary during labor, though I'm not ruling anything out.

I don't remember, are you UC'ing? I'm UCing and thinking about a sensual/sexual birth at the moment (we'll see what happens)

I actually clicked on this thread because I thought it might be in reference to feeling a bit surreal (like a "baby fog" almost) prior to labour - life has been feeling . . . not quite usual the past couple days

Nope not UCing, actually going to go the hospital, but since I'm going VBAC I'm going to wait as long as possible to go in (possibly transition we'll see how it's feeling) I'm hoping to labor a good long while in the comfort of my own home.

And if I'm not ruling out the possibilty that I may have to poop in a bucket, why would I rule out a total makeout session with DH? I just plan to go with the flow, you dig?

Heavy, man.

I tried to seduce my wife while our daughter napped today, hoping to get some of that psychedelic feeling! Didn't work...but it was nice to focus on being intimate at a time when it feels like every other question is "are you having any contractions?"

I would like to seduce my old man, but I made the mistake of telling him how I can feel the baby's head just inside my vagina, and now he is wary of going there!

I've only read the Guide to Childbirth -- which, aside from orgasmic/elated birth and kissing and fondling during contrations -- doesn't have a real hippy bent.

Now I'm tempted to read the other one.

Same here Amy, I am really wondering what I am missing now... maybe it's time to see if Spiritual Midwifery is available at the library?

I've got them both and have read them. Love her stuff! There are also youtube clips of her lectures online! I love Ina May!!!

Spiritual Midwifery is why I'm having a home birth. I fell in love with it ten + years ago and read it frequently just to get into that "holy" head space about birth! Yes, they have it at libraries, though I like to have my copy around just to read the birth stories over and over again!

I do adore the birth stories. It's really helped me redefine my view of labor as a holy, celebratory thing.

I was really happy to have this book around after a full wk of contrax and no progress to speak of.

I think I'm about to go ask my DH to get Tantric on my feet, it's been a long day (I'm leaving work just now... yippee!)
