I have been on birth control for about 3 years, I decided I didnt want to take it anymore.....so I quit cold turkey about 1 week ago......is this ok or will something happen?

I did that when I went off of it. It was quite a few years ago, but I don't remember any effects from it. As I recall, my periods were normal immediately.

Nothing bad will happen, but the pill depletes your body of vitamin B, so you might want to take B supplements until all the synthetic hormones work themselves out of your body (can take a couple months up to a year or more).

The synthetic hormones can also stress your liver, so you could take some liver support supplements and/or herbal tea--liver support formulas usually have some dandelion root in them to help cleanse the liver.

Taking vitex (chasteberry) can also help regulate your cycles, as can red raspberry leaf tea.

I read that they can also throw off your mineral levels, like depleting zinc.

You could call your dr or midwife's office and ask.

I recommend the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility for your next step. An awesome book that explains how our bodies work. Good for if you're preventing or encouraging pregnancy.
