Do air purifiers work?

Hi all,

Anyone wise about air purifiers? I have heard they're great and have also heard they actually pollute the air. I read on the EPA website that EPA believes the benefit of using a purifier (that cleans with ozone) is unfounded.

Opinions?

I was never fully convinced one way or the other on air purifiers, but I do recommend the book How To Grow Fresh Air. Plants don't remove things like dust and dust mites, but they are really useful for VOCs and the like, and really improve the air quality of the house.
