Grease down the kitchen drain...

What do I do now?

I finally figured out why my kitchen sink drain has periodically been slow over the past few months...my au pair has been regularly throwing cooking grease down it. She had no clue that this wasn't a good idea. Sigh. It didn't occur to me that I'd need to tell someone this. Oh well.

So, I've done the baking soda/vinegar/hot water routine, but it's still a bit slow...what else can I do? I'd hate to use chemicals, and I don't know that they'd help much anyway...

Keep repeating the baking soda/vinegar?

yeah, i would keep repeating this method. are you holding the drain stop in place after adding the vinegar? this forces the gunk down the pipe. i never knew i needed to do this until recently. i've had success with dumping bs down the drain, pouring vinegar and holding the drain stop in place for a few minutes and then adding boiling or really hot water.

You could try boiling water and Dawn to get the grease loosened.

What Tilia said. The detergent will work away the grease & the boiling water will liquefy it. Add lots & lots of soap, then pour in a kettle full of boiling water, repeat a few times until it runs clear.

I have used coke or pepsi also down the drain. Dump the pop down the drain and follow with boiling water.
