Pattern to make DD a 19th century dress/can I do it?

DD and I went to Old Sturbridge Village (a late 18th - early 19th century living museum type place) in Sturbridge, MA today. We left there w/me telling her that I would make her a dress to wear like the ones there. The problem is that I really don't sew anything but quilts, diapers and fix things. What kind of pattern do I get? Any hints on using a pattern - probably done it 5 times at the most. It needs to be a little nicer than dress up but not much. Any help would be great. TIA!

there is a pattern company....

but I can't remember the name

Heritage designs?

But you also should be able to use a costume pattern from Simplicity or McCalls

Here's a pattern from Simplicty.

These patterns come with an instruction leaflet. Sometimes they're confusing (poorly written), but if you take your time and use common sense you should have no problem!

Not sure what style you're looking for, but have you checked out Folkwear?

I love the dresses on this site, but have not used the pattern myself. Look at the gallery- the dress variations are beautiful!
