extreme nipple pain at 11 weeks!? HELP!

my little one will be 11 weeks tomorrow and just over the last couple of days, breastfeeding has become insanely painful. out of nowhere! i haven't had any pain at all since she was two weeks old.

i can see tiny lacerations around my nipples, like cracks. they bleed a little. when she latches on, it feels like my nipples are being sliced off with razor blades. the pain is extreme for several minutes and then lessens a bit.

there are no signs of thrush or any teeth coming in that i can feel. i don't have any itching or redness (except for the cracks themselves that are very raw and pink).

i started with the lansinoh yesterday morning hoping that if i can keep the cracks from scabbing it won't hurt so bad. but it's AWFUL. and it feels like it's getting worse, not better!

PLEASE HELP ME!

please see our post here: http://www.mothering.com/discussions...d.php?t=895041

We are posting sore/cracked nipple solutions here. Maybe they will help. I found that Aquaphor worked better than Lanisoh for me. Lanisoh seemed to do nothing.

is his latch off? could the cuts have become infected?

Are you SURE there are no signs of thrush? Pain like you are describing was my first sign when we had thrush.

Are you changing positions at all when you nurse? Another position may get a better latch/lessen the pain for you.

I had to use a nipple shield very briefly to give my nipples time to heal.

It sounds exactly like thrush to me as well...

okay. the pain is so severe, i'm going to have to give her a bottle. it hurts SO BAD i can't breathe. i have some milk frozen and i can pump (pumping stings but doesn't hurt anywhere near as bad).

is it possible to have thrush but see no symptoms in the baby?? she has no signs of it that i can see. she had a LITTLE bit of a red bottom a couple of days ago, but it cleared up within a day with a little bit of weleda diaper cream.

if it is thrush, and the pain is this severe, who do i call? her doctor? my doctor?

i cleaned my nipples before pumping, and after pumping i washed them with a baking soda solution. now i'm just leaving them uncovered.

anything else i can do immediately to help?

Thrush can be present with no symptoms in baby. Lansinoh will make it worse as it holds the moisture on the nipple. Let em get air!
You'll have better luck getting the right meds and dosages with the baby's doctor.

I agree it does sound like thrush.
Do you have shooting pains in your breast at all?

well, it's definitely thrush!! my baby woke up with the tell tale bright red yeast rash this morning. my nipples look like i fed them to a wood chipper.

i called bea's dr first thing this morning and they called in a prescription for nystatin and told me to put lotramin on my nipples. i also called the ob-gyn and talked to the nurse. if the dr comes in this morning, he's going to call in some diflucan for me.

i'm walking around topless and bea is practicing rolling over diaperless (rolling over is much easier without a diaper!).

Oh, so sorry it is thrush. But at least you can start battling it. I remember that pain. It made me realize how easy it would be to give up BFing if I weren't totally committed to it. Luckily, the pain eased up once I got treatment under way and my nipples started healing. Pain-free nursing is in your not too distant future. Hang in there!

Have you checked out all of the thrush info? Be sure to sanitize EVERYTHING so you don't keep reinfecting yourself or your babe.
