Need mattress advice

Hey all....

Here's my problem. DP and I are having a really hard time with our backs, especially in the morning after waking up. I think it's our mattress. It's not the greatest mattress, your run of the mill budget spring mattress and it's a few years old....I'd say about 4 or 5.

I'd love to have something like a tempurpedic, but we really can't afford $1000 for a new mattress. Anyone have any good reccomendations? I'd love something more eco-friendly, but probably have to sacrifice that for price as we're a single income home and DP's hours have been cut.

We got a mattress from costco that we really liked. It was their queen pillowtop. We have used it for years and it is still great. I don't remember how much, but it wasn't $1000.

And yes, a bed can make a HUGE difference in your back.

We bought matresses last year, and I wanted to add that I was *shocked* at how much the major matress retailers would take off of the price if you just ask and shop around.

The sticker prices are inflated almost by 50%. Most places will negotiate some, and match prices of competitors.

We bought a Select Comfort bed off of Craigs list I think we paid ~$300 for a King and have the receipt for $2500. Since it is operated by air the springs don't wear out. I love it!

My next mattress is going to be latex. They are simply wonderful! Here is the place with the lowest prices that I have found (and I looked a lot):

That latex sounds great and the prices aren't too bad, thanks!

I really appreciate the input. I know I'll be checking that site from His Own, and then checking Craigslist when we can get the mattress.

oh please inform yourselves before you buy a toxic mattress that will offgas it's poisons into your body and your breastmilk and your unborn babies! Mattresses are made up of toxic petroleum based foams with flame retardents made of cancer causing chemicals. you sleep on this for 8 hours a night, 1/3 of your life. please do some research before you buy. memory foam is the worst but any mattress that is not organic has poison in it. it is worth the investment to not breathe poison night after night. please read these articles:

we LOVE LOVE LOVE our latex mattress. its not organic, but i know latex is plant derived. dh and i have both noticed a big difference in how rested we feel and our backs feel much better. we bought ours locally, but if you can find a deal online, i'd say go for it!!
