as of right now I'm UP and UC....

I have yet to decide if I'm going to hire a midwife or not.

so...that's my lack of plans there....

I'm debating with myself a UC, I hemmoraged pretty badly with the last one, but that could have been due to the Blue/black cohosh I took. I would really like to have a home birth with just me.

I already talked to my husband about it and basically if I go quick (we have an hour or so drive to the birthcenter) we're going to have everything at the house to deliver, if not we'll make our way down to the birthcenter. I'm not nervous about either, and I think either scenario played out is ok with me. I'll probably decide once I get closer.

I am going to do prenatal care with the midwives, makes me feel a bit better. good luck with your care

i'm thinking that i'm right around 6 weeks or so....

i don't know for certain...but according to my calculations, i'm going to be having the baby right around the beginning of january....

how about you?

I'm thinking I'm just over 7 weeks so the week between Christmas and New Years is when I'm expecting this little one.

I'm about 5 weeks or so along. I'll eventually get a midwife... I don't know when though. I like UPing, but I want to have a midwife I can call if something goes wrong at the birth. I attempted a UC for my first baby, but we freaked when my labor stalled and called someone in. I'm bummed about it, but it all worked out. I feel more educated and prepared this time, so I doubt I'll need help.

I'm planning a UC right now, but am going to look for an OB to hear the heartbeat at 12 weeks and see the gender u/s (I don't care about surprises) at 20 weeks (and see that the baby's doing fine--you get paranoid after a loss or two). I'm 6 weeks, 4 days.

I'm 4 weeks 2 days. Hoping for a UC this time. We planned one with DS, but I ended up being induced due to pre-eclampsia at 35 weeks. I am mostly doing UP, although I'm having some shadow care with the same OB that delivered DS in case I end up with pre-eclampsia again.

I'm having a UP/UC this time around. For some reason last time I though it would be best to see the MW during my pregnancy even though I knew I wouldn't call her until after Babe AND my placenta where born...it ended up being nothing but a hastle that cost me more than 500$ I rally could have used for my diet and whatnot (and that was just for transport, MW's are covered by medical in BC)

I'm really looking forward to being pregnant and not having to run around following the Med community's agenda with my two little boys in tow!

DUe date calculators are giving me a date of Dec 29th which would put conception around April 7th...since I spotted on April 21st I've decided to go midway and say I'm due early-mid Jan. ...so aproximately 7 weeks pregnant right now..

Wow -- I hadn't even considered that! This is my first pregnancy, though, so I am just learning.

Around here it seems that there's the hospital or there's one "lay midwife" (does this mean she's not a nurse?) who does homebirths. I was thinking I'd call her. I'd love a waterbirth ideally, but it looks like there's no place for it here. Maybe my bathtub?

Are you all experienced at this?

I planned a UC with my first pregnancy. Didn't end up that way, unfortunately, but it's definitely done all the time.

A lay midwife means she's unliscenced. Depending on where you are, that may mean she's actually practicing illegally. (But don't let that scare you - honestly I'd trust a lay midwife before I'd trust anyone else). You can rent a birthing tub, or I know a lot of ladies like the inflatable pools for kids with the bottom that also inflates. A bathtub is a good place, too. That's where I plan to birth.

I am considering mostly UP/UC this time around. We hospital birthed with number 1....lots of nterventions, induction not very pleasant, number two was a "dry" homebirth and number three was a great waterbirth. I did bleed a bit heavily pp with number three, so I would need to do some research on what to do in case of hemorage, but each birth has also been quicker and quicker, so, I would really like to be prepared in case of UC just due to not having time for an attendant. I used the La Bassine in November and loved it.

Lay midwives don't necessarily mean unlicensed, at least in Florida. Here in Gainesville, we have the Florida School of Traditional Midwifery, which is an intensive 3 year program, but they are considered lay because they aren't nurses or doctors. The graduates are lay, but they are licensed by the state.

Thanks for all the info! I wonder if I can rent a birthing tub around here..
