What have you tried? I had a *really* bad oil burn in a SS pan and Bar Keepers friend took care of most of it. Have you tried putting a drop of dish soap in the pan with some water and boiling it again? Soaking some baking soda in it? Making a paste of dish soap and baking soda to scrub at it? Good luck!

Put some water in the bottom to cover the burned part, and a lot of baking soda ( a whole cup for a big pot)

then simmer it on medium-low for like 20 minutes. After it cools it should wash right off.

I do this all the time when I burn oatmeal to the bottom of my pot

If the above suggestions don't work, I've also had luck using BonAmi with a scrubby sponge after boiling water in the pan to soften up the gunk.

Yes, all of the above. Plus, after it's been on the stove on low for a few minutes, try scraping the bottom with the flat side of a metal spatula. That should help get most of it off. And if none of the above work, pull out a metal scrubbie on whatever's left.

wierd, but works ...

Dump a bottle of Coca Cola into it, bring it to a boil and let it boil for five minutes or so. It takes most of the gunk off, I kid you not.

ps. Not green but works too ... Magic Eraser. For real.

I've done most of the above successfully, too. Hot water from the tap works just as well as boiling it, for me, anyway. Let it soak and scrape with something hard first with no cleaners. We happen to have flat-edge cooking spoons that work wonders! I get as much of the "gunk" off like that first and then move to the cleaners...baking soda and/or Kleen King with a scrubby of some kind. Right now I am in love with stainless steel ones that have a bunch of tightly coiled strands of stainless steel bunched together. I am on my last one and do not recall the brand or packaging, but I will be finding more of these. They work great on our stainless steel pots and pans! (They do not work on our white porcelain sink - LOL - which is actually a good thing!)

BEST WISHES!!!

put hot water and baking soda in it then scrape the food out. invest in some bar keepers friend (you'll find it by the bon ami, it is like bon ami with an acid from rhubarb plant) - it will take off any remaining marks. it's also great for bath tubs and sinks!

I've covered the bottom of a pan with damp bicarb, left it out in the sun with the lid on for about 2 days, and the black residue simply flaked away. It was a stainless steel pan, and it was really badly burnt. It left a darkish stain on the steel, but that eventually wore away with washing. My Mum has done the same with salt and it worked.

I also burned barley, but to the bottom of my crock pot! I've tried soaking it in hot water several times, which hasn't helped at all. Do you think I should try the baking soda?

I use superfine steel wool when all else fails on stainless cookware.

Amway makes a product called Scrub Buds that is stainless steel. (I don't sell Amway! : I just really like Scrub Buds...)

I've had good luck soaking hot water and vinegar. I put it on the back burner that vents from the oven while I'm baking something, and by the time I'm done cooking and washing dishes it will be easy to wash last. If not, let it soak (unheated) overnight and repeat the process with fresh water tomorrow.
