Getting stickum off of ceramic?

We bought some chinese-style ceramic soup spoons, but they all had stickers on the back with really nasty glue that I cannot for the life of me get off. I've tried soaking them in vinegar, along with regular washing. All the paper is gone, they're just sticky.

Any ideas on how to unstick my spoons?

Run them through the dishwasher & remove immediately while still scalding hot. This might work with a boiling water bath too.

I've also heard mayonnaise can work.

And if all else fails, while probably not the most "green" product, you can purchase "GOO GONE". It'll take any sticky item off. I don't use it often, and it doesn't take much, so I don't worry too much about it.

And then...? ;-) peel at the scalding hot stickum with my fingers?

Sounds like a good idea (and cheaper to start with than the oil) but just want some clarification...

Goo gone works a treat. It's orange oil based, and smells good.

According to the MSDS for Goo Gone, it's not so much orange-oil based as it has orange oil in it, which probably makes the petroleum naptha solvent smell better. ;-) I think I'll skip it.

The oil is working really well, says my husband (who is our main dish doer, especially when the baby insists on nursing constantly).

Would nail polisher remover work?

A hairdryer can also help - just heat up the glue and pick it off

Rubbing alcohol works well, too. Especially for scraping off the sticky residue after the sticker has already been removed.
