cleaning ceramic stovetops?

Howdy...

I have stopped cleaning my ceramic stovetop because I can't get it clean and it's too frustrating!! But then I go into deep depression when I look at it and it's so grungy....

help me! I'm using elbow grease and lots of it with a little pseudo-abrasive pad that came with the cooktop, but the only thing that does much of anything is the *razorblade* which I don't like using when my wee ones are around. Even that doesn't get it all. I don't know if I'm supposed to use baking soda (I have tried it and it didn't seem to scratch the surface up much) but that's really the only idea I even have. Anyone else with experience or ideas?

Perhaps I should learn to cook without spilling stuff everywhere...

thanks!

I've used a BS/Bronner's paste, or a little BS & vinegar. I have to let either sit a few hours before scrubbing with the pad though.

Ceramic cooktop works intermittently

Ever since we got our Miele cooktop---the burners "come on" when the dials are turned, but even with very flat bottomed pans, the heat goes off and is off more than it is on. Anyone else have the problem of intermittent heat on a ceramic cooktop?

Yes, I only have one "good burner" that I can rely on to fry things on. Other than that, the others can take an hour to heat a large pot of water for pasta.
