Four hour mw appt.

I knew I had gained some water weight over the weekend. It's been hot, and predicted to start our summertime temps of hitting 100 + this week. I was hoping to have delivered before our weather did this. At any rate, I have cantelope ankles. On the way to the mw I realized my flip flops won't fit anymore...not good.
38 weeks today...
My BP was 138/90. My weight gain was 12 pounds in one week. So, we did a NST-midwife style, and baby was reactive but not as much as they'd like. They had me drink four huge glasses of this herbal tea that they said would have me peeing all night. We did another NST at the end, same results. After rigerously going over my food choices, and all my supplements, she said she was a little skeptical as to if we can get this under control. She really wanted to do an exam on the basis that if we decide we have to "evict" baby, we can have a baseline to go from, and go with mw tricks/herbal eviction and not go straight in for pit. Which I am all for. Enter here...very uncomfortable VE. I haven't had one this whole time so it took me a minute to relax. Baby was high, floating around in all this extra fluid. Cervix could be stretched to 1cm, but left alone one end kindof closed back up, effacement 30%. Bloody show of course left on the exam glove. Nothing exciting, although we all know how fast that stuff can change.

At this point she says she thinks I should move around and get some exercise. She gives me a menu about protien and veggies only etc etc. Here's the odd part to me...she offers me to meet her at the local gym where she will be waiting with guest pass and have me swim. So, I went home, dropped of dh and kids, ate a lovely chicken and broccoli dinner and *ahem* slid or more like stretched into my old bikini rofl. Waddled over to 24 hour fitness and did laps with my mw for 45 minutes. How cool is that?!!!! I went swimming with my midwife! I kept thinking, how many ob's do this? lol. Anyway, she says I bet that swimming made your ankles shrink, lets see...I lift my foot from the water and guess what? They were bigger. She said to call it a night and that she'd see me Wednesday at noon. As I got out of the pool, all the gravity took effect and I felt 400 pounds heavier in body and mind.

So I have this insane herbal tea/supplement/diet for the next two days...attempting to save my homebirth but not letting my BP rise so high it's an emergency. The mw are going to a conference this coming weekend and are talking possible herbal induction come next Monday (39 weeks exactly). At this point, Im feeling so claustrophobic and a little scared for baby and myself, that I think I may just consent. I mean...they aren't talking IV's and pitocin...just some kind of "kick start" I can do at home. I'm thinking it's the cohosh thing. Baby is also feeling around 8-9 pounds. Which is no big deal, but he just could be not able to get the best nutrients from me anymore beings he's a big squishy in there. He's ready for booby juice!!!

Anyway, I had to kinda share where I am. I do hope to get this swelling and BP down, I certainly don't want to fight it sky rocketing during labor. And yet having an end in sight is certainly very very teasing at this point. I guess you guys will see alot of me the next two days, as I am to be standing or laying lol no more sitting...which means laptop in bed with a bored mama lol. Anyone know any good websites to surf?

Off to catch some ZZZZ's ...

What a day! The swimming sounds wonderful.

I know how stressful PIH can be. I really hope it gets under control with all of the things that you will be doing. Relax, and enjoy all of that protein.

Hugs,
Amy

I'm dealing with some potential home birth killing complications as well, but there isn't a darn thing I can do about mine other than pray the babies flip again. It's frustrating and scary and I hope that your BP comes back down and baby decides to make an appearance.

I hope things turn around!

How awesome that your mw went swimming with you!!!

I hope the rest and relaxation helps. With dd1 I had high bp several times at the OB's office. Once as high as what yours was. When my OB put me on disability for the last month and I spent my time at home sitting around doing nothing (had no other children at the time, so this was easy ) and also swimming when I could, my bp came right down. I still had lots of swelling, but with the lower bp everything was considered okay.

Anyway, I hope the bedrest brings it down for you .

Oh wow, what a cool thing for your m/w to do! I REALLY hope your b/p comes down and you get the best homebirth ever!

Very cool about the swimming!

As for the swelling, really up that protein, drink plenty of fluids and get some Epsom salt - and take a nice bath in it. You may notice a lot of sweating afterwards, but that's the body releasing all that extra fluid it's holding.

Good luck!

i have never done this before... do i just soak my feet or my whole body? i have some SERIOUSLY swolen feet as well... my flip flops just barely fit..ugh... luckily my blood pressure is doing fine- but i have gained so much weight i KNOW its from all the extra fluid... my mw says that the baby is just under 7 pounds at almost 38 weeks...

to you mama- hopefully it will all be over very soon!

Update...

So today I am throwing up everything that hits my tummy. Herbal tea, vitamin, food, liquid. Water seems to be the only thing staying somewhat down if I sip it in tiny sips. I called DH to tell him I think I am dying. He informs me his whole family has food poisoning...(we were there on mothers day). But it can't be what I have cause he's not sick too. I said "you are not pregnant either" I am barely functional and taking care of our four year old. I really want him to come home and help me, and do the drive to pick up the other kids from school...but I didn't ask because I want him to have time off after baby arrives.

My feet are still huge. My head is a little achy. My guts feel ripped out. THIS. SUCKS. Idk what the heck to do with myself except climb back into bed, I'm so exhausted.

That's up to you. I would do my whole body when dealing with anything PIH/BP related, but a nice epsom salt footbath is always quite nice
