I was told to wean! What to do with dentists? - Page 2

:-(
That was my biggest fear when I brough DS to the dentist a couple weeks ago (he also has some decay on his top four teeth- on the front of them)
They never suggested weaning or said anything about sugar content but he did say to wipe down/brush his teeth after any night nursing sessions because of the decay that's already there.
There's a really informative yahoo group called veryyoungkidsteeth that's also a spin off of a nursing/extended nursing yahoo group. Tons of them have BTDT to all sorts of degrees. (and I see it's already been suggested anyway LOL)

I wish I had the link, but there was a study done where human teeth were put in breastmilk, sugar water, and a mix of breastmilk and sugar water. The control was distilled water. The ones in sugar water and the mix of sugar and breastmilk decayed. The mix decayed faster than the plain sugar water. The one with only breastmilk started to remineralize the tooth. The problem is breast milk in combination with solids (sugar), not breastmilk alone. Curse the computer Gods for my laptop crashing or I'd have a reference.

I wasn't told to wean but my dentist suggested that the odd discolouration on my DS's teeth could be due to my tea drinking and then breastfeeding him
