Several years ago, I read a book that was either a biography or an autobiography of a girl who grew up on a farm, I believe in the US, maybe during the depression. She was creative and spirited and a handful and wrote about her experiences with strict parents (I think) and going out into the woods and such around her home. Someone left crayons in a log for her so she could draw, I think. She went on to study natural history and have an extensive specimen collection that she housed in a museum, but that wasn't in her (auto?)biography, it was in the introduction or preface.

This book feels good in your hands. The paper is heavyweight, and the illustrations flow perfectly.
