My baby boy is here!!!!!

Hey all! Bryan Wesley was born 10 days early on 5/10 at 12:20am. He weighed 7 lbs 4 oz and was 20 in long. The labor was 9.5 hours and pretty intense....from 3cm on I had contractions every 1-2min and they were definitely the most painful I've ever had. From what I understand he was facing upwards the entire time until I started pushing and he turned himself into the right position....I was in so much pain I couldn't comprehend anything during a contraction. I spent an hour on the birthing ball slightly bouncing to try to get a grip on the pain....nothing worked. I then went from 6cm to 9cm in a half hour and luckily he was out in 6 pushes. So at least that part went fast. I tore a little....I think I only got like 5 stitches. BUt other than that, he is perfect (a pretty good sleeper so far too, he gives me 3 hour stretches and last night did almost a 4 hour stretch) and the breastfeeding is going okay. He doesn't have the widest latch on yet, so I have to break the seal a lot and try again.....my nipples are sore and had bleed a couple times....but he's starting to get better at it. So that's it for me. I'm VERY VERY happy to not be pregnant anymore.....I got my body back.....and I'm loving sleeping on my back again!!! Good luck to everyone and their babies!!!!!!!!!

Congrats mama!!!

I'm so glad the breastfeeding is going ok given what you've been through in the past. Day by day, feeding by feeding, mama.

If your nips are bleeding try a saline soak on them? Pour salt in the bottom of a shot glass (or larger glass if your nipples are bigger than shot glass size) and add hot water. soak nips in the saline soak until the water cools 4-5 times per day for 2 days. It will hurt the first few times, but should speed healing in 48 hours.

merry-mary, thanks for the suggestion on the saline soak. I'll definitely try that. I think part of the breastfeeding issue right now is also because my breasts are so engorged and hard that he can't get a wide latch on anyway. I try to point my nipple upwards in hopes that will help him open up more. I don't want to pump yet (don't get my electric pump till friday anyways) but I think I might have to pump a little bit before trying to feed him. I'm also only using one breast at a time during feedings.

Good. One breast at a time shoudl help a little with yoru past issues. Given what you've been through, you might want to try to hold off on pumping as long as possible - can you hand express to take the edge off?

let me know how the saline soak works. Supposedly, it is effective in like 95% of mamas. Just bear in mind it WILL hurt the first few times - you are putting salt on a wound afterall. But after that, it should give you a lot of relief.

If you're having more acute BFing problems, feel free to PM me - I will be checking MDC as long as I don't have my baby - I don't always have time to post, but I do log in and check our DDC! You've been on my mind!

Congrats mama and welcome to your little one! It sounds like maybe you had back labor ... posterior babies can cause a lot of pain. I'm sorry you had to go through that -- it sounds like you were one strong mama!

Congrats on your baby boy! And I must say, I'm a bit jealous that you get to sleep on your back again . Soon for me.... soon.

Congratulations!!

You can also hand express some breastmilk & let your nips air-dry to help relieve some of the soreness.
