Thrush?

I don't think we have thrush, because from what everyone has said on here it is absolutely miserable! I do wonder though, because it could explain the increased nipple pain, or his latch could be messed up.. I am just wondering what the symptoms are... thanks in advance ladies!!

For my first the only symptoms I had were really light coloured nipples. DD1 had white patches in her mouth.

For this one it's the same symptoms plus pain during letdown which I'm not entirely convinced is from the thrush.

It's not horrendous just annoying so maybe I don't have thrush.

I have pain during my letdown, I don't know if it's from thrush either .....

Our only symptom was DS's white spots in the mouth, I didn't really have any pain at all on my end of things.

Hmmm... good to know! My letdown has always been mildly painful but my nipples have been in a LOT more pain the past couple days! Are the white spots on your LO's tongue actual spots? or is their whole tongue white?
Usually thrush is in patches that won't come off if you rub on them. If you think that is what your LO has it wouldn't hurt to give him/her probiotics and take them as well yourself...I have always had not exactly pain but discomfort when I let down with all 3 kids if that helps.

We are just getting over it. He didn't have any signs other than gassiness, I had sore nipples, especially during letdown. It felt like my nipples were stinging and like I read on a website, I had glass in my bra.

The whole tongue can be white. Klaus' tongue was totally coated before he got the spots. Visit the thrush thread in breastfeeding challenges.

A couple of people only have mild pain. Hope you dont have it.

Your baby's tongue is going to be naturally white. but with thrush it gets yellower and real thick.

i have thrush again.

i have been in denial all week and today started tackling it again. I hope that it doesn't last 6 months like it did with DS. It consumed my life and ripped me of a peaceful breastfeeding relationship.

i have pain with let down and areas of pink nipples where the thrush is. Baby does not have any spots and i think just milk left over on her tounge at this point. DS never had much in his mouth but had a HORRIBLE HORRIBLE yeast rash for months and months we worked on. I hope she doesn't get that.

So off i go to treat myself. anyone that wants my regimine for treatment: (and for those of you that saw my monster post of all the things i had tried i will shorten it!)

Here are the links to the acidophillus/citrogen that i truly believe kicked my thrush once and for all.

Nipples:
1. rinse after every feed with GSE 15 drops to 1 ounce water
2. apply olive oil mixed with acidophillus
3. Sun bathe toppless as much as possible
4. Air dry as much as possible
5. Get Diflucan 400mg loading dose followed by 200mg/day.
6. Take oral GSE
7. Decrease all sugars in diet
8. can apply antifungal creames to nipples if they help.

Baby's mouth:
1. keep doing nystatin if it is helping. usually it doesn't.
2. give baby probiotics by letting him suck it off your finger

both: do a dose of gentian violet if you want. (i am skipping it for now)

Baby's butt:
hairdry and airdry after every diaper change
apply cream if it helps (i found the above was sufficient for 2 months working at it)

Keep doing all this stuff even if you don't have pain anymore, because it still in your system!

could they just be sore from lots of use? I have to put lanolin on my nipples regularly (every time, if he's going through a constant-feeding stage) or else they feel sore and uncomfortable. Even still, they're still a little sore all the time, but nothing really painful.

izzy def has it in her mouth and now my breasts get a light bunring feeling in addition to the stabby pain during letdown. We've been dealing with it for 3 weeks now. First in her mouth, then my breasts, then her bum and a vaginal yeast infection for me. We've used gentian and the nystatin and nothing is working.

I see little spots on her cheeks again...just when I think it's gone for her it comes right back the next day.

Eleanor's had thrush for a while and it's finally clearing up. I had no symptoms other than a little vaginal dryness (like I'm getting a yeast inf.). She had a butt rash just between the crack and a white coated tongue and small bumps (like acne) on her cheeks. And she was having sleeping issues-she's usually a really good sleeper. So, I started eating yogurt every day and taking probiotics (dang they're pricey!) and giving her some of the probiotics by letting her suck it off my finger. Her butt now it clear and the tongue only has a little white left on it. And she is so much happier.

So, start taking probiotics. The good ones in the refrigerator at the health food store.

Is there something specific that I should buy (re probiotics)?

My biggest problem is eliminating sugar ............

see my post above. seriously...buy these. worth the money. the superpowder is 130 billion (safe with breastfeeding) and reboots your system. best to take this with diflucan 400mg loading dose then 200mg daily and then follow up with the other powder. Citrogen is like GSE in capsule form, and GSE drops (local health food store) are good for the nipples. its all expensive but worth it. You must treat for 2 weeks when the pain is gone b/c it can still be there even if pain free. treat baby too with acidophillus!
