PP weight loss?

With DS1, I weighed 179 prepregnancy, and had a really typical weight gain pattern, gaining a total of 27 pounds.... all of which were gone by 3 weeks post-partum, and I kept losing to a low of 163 before I got a Mirena and started gaining again.

I had an atypical weight gain pattern with this pregnancy ;-). I weighed 189 at my first prenatal appointment (hadn't weighed myself in months prior to that, but that's probably my "prepregnancy" weight). Then I lost five pounds in the next couple months, and didn't start gaining back until about the fifth or sixth month. I didn't break the 189 marker again until around 37 weeks, and weighed 194 at my max.

So... I expected to be below my "prepregnancy" weight pretty much immediately, and was. I weighed myself when I got my staples out 3 days PP and was 187. Then finally today, we dug the bathroom scale out of the spare room (it never got unpacked when we moved over a year ago), and got on it... *with* baby (who weighs at least 10 pounds now) in the Maya wrap.

183.8.

I shed the baby, and tried again... 166.4.

DH also weighed himself; he weighs what we'd expect, so I don't think the scale is totally off.

Where is it *going*? I mean, I know I have an oversupply... I pumped the breast I didn't use last night, and in about 5 minutes had nearly five ounces. Butbutbut... I eat a ton of fat, but "good" fats like olive oil and coconut oil and grassfed beef and nuts and things; pretty much no trans fats and fairly low polyunsaturated vegetable fat too. I also eat a lot of "junk" like meringue cookies and this wonderful carrot cake I made the other day.

Good thing I have the weight to spare, huh? And... in that case, why the heck don't my old jeans fit? ;-) I mean, I could wear them after DS1... did this pregnancy change the shape of my body THAT much?

How are the rest of you doing?

Birthed at 188 2 weeks ago tomorrow. I'm down to 167. My goal is to be 150 by September, which would be my prepreggo weight. From there I want to be 145 and hold steady there. I plan on going back to karate in mid to late June, so that should help.

I was 198 when the day I had him, and am now 168. I would like to get down to 140, but I was 155 pre-pregnancy so I would be ok with that too!

I'm only 10 days PP, but I'm already at least 2lbs below my pre-pregnancy weight and still kinda diuresing (is that a word?).

When I wear my early-pregnancy maternity jeans, the waist band holds my floppy tummy in and I feel really skinny I'm hoping to un-flop the tummy and keep a weight similar to this or 5-10lbs less.

our bodies are such interesting things, aren't they?

i was 132 pre-pregnancy and weighed 174 the morning i went into labor. almost exactly the same amount of weight i gained in the other two pregnancies. she's 12 days old and i now weight 158, also pretty typical of my last two experiences where i dropped 20 pounds approx. in the first two weeks. but i'm curious to see how it will proceed from here. with DD1 i was back to pre-pregnancy weight at 4 months post partum. but with DS it took much longer - probably like 15 months, maybe even a little more, before i was really back to pre-pregnancy weight. it was the last 10 pounds that just wanted to hang around forever. and i was surprised, since i was nursing 2 i thought it would fly off me, but alas, that was not the case! i don't 'diet' or watch what i eat, though i try to eat relatively healthy foods and try not to go crazy with the fatty/sugary junk stuff. though i do have a weakness for ice cream

but i figure my body's going to do what it needs to do, as long as i feel healthy and am getting exercise i'm not going to worry too much. it would be nice to be into my old pants by the time the weather turns cold - i hate buying clothes i intend to not be able to wear for long!!

I was close to 230 at birth and dipped to 180 shortly after, now am back up to 190. Thrush diet will make me skinny.

Similar experience here.

I started this pregnancy at 176, lost 2 lb in the first tri, gained 16 from there for a top pg weight of 190. By 2 weeks pp, I was back to pre-preg weight (still there). So it frustrates me that I can't fit into any clothes -- normal clothes are too tight, maternity clothes are too loose. Do I have to go get a new POSTPARTUM wardrobe just to accommodate the hip spread? That's just plain wrong.

I guess I'll be thrift store shopping this weekend. Harumph.

i was about 120 when i got pregnant, but i was sick and i usually weight 125. i was 191 4 days before i gave birth so i'd say i was about 195 when i delivered. I'm a month PP and i'm 158 now. I'm hoping to be down to my normal weight by 6 months PP.

I was 62kg (136ish pounds) pre-pregnancy. 73.5 (162ish) on the morning of the birth and 69 (152ish) that evening. Baby was 3.5kg and placenta about 1kg, so that doesn't leave me with much amniotic fluid. I lost 3kg in the first week and since then have lost an addition 1.5kg. I have about 2.5 left to go until pre-pregnancy weight. Baby is 6 weeks old. I can wear my regular clothing, but it's tight.

I don't have a scale....but I feel so skinny! I think if I got on a scale I might be dissapointed, so I'll just enjoy the FEELING.

Pre-preg I was 127 lbs, before birth I was 185 lbs. As of 5 days pp, 150 (we were at the pedi office and i had to check out the scale out of curiosity). I look about 6 months pregnant - the belly will never b the same, and i have little hope for my old clothes to fit again due to reshaping of my body!!!

and like pixiepunk, i heart ice cream

I was 125-ish pre-pg size 4, and 165-ish on delivery day. I'm now around 145 and today I squeezed into some size 8 pants. I'm only two weeks pp, so I'm not feeling too bad.

With my last pregnancy, I gained the same amount of weight and lost it all bt 9-10 months pp.

I love breastfeeding...I lost 10 lbs while in Italy eating TONS of pasta! Hopefully that will happen this time too, but I'm going to add a couple spinning classes and some Bikram yoga to speed up weight loss.

I was 124 when I got pregnant, and about 160 when I delivered. This morning I weighed 135 at 5 weeks PP. I hope to be back to PP weight in another month, and loose another 10 by the end of the summer (That is what I am when I am running a lot) Right now, my cute summer shirts don't look so cute!

well, let's see... I've lost about 30 pounds off of my top weight, but I'm *still* at least 20 pounds overweight. ;-) 100 is a low number; of course, it's not as low if you're 4'9" as if you're 5'3", but it sounds like you were very trim going into pregnancy. The body *needs* fat stores to maintain milk supply, so women who were in great shape pre-pregnancy often will retain at least an extra 10 pounds or so as long as they're nursing.

Sometimes, those fat stores are mostly in the boobs, too... what's your current bra size relative to your pre-preg size?

I might only be 10 or so pounds from prepreggo weight, but it's all different than it was. Up until 6 months or so into the pregnancy, I worked out a lot...lots of karate and running and strength training. I slowed down on that and then went about an entire month of just walking....so I think really I have a lot more than 10 pounds to go because I have a lot of muscle to regain it seems. My belly pouch is a reminder of that
