MarchWillow had the great idea to start a poll to find out what our ratio actually is. This is my first, so I apologize for any weird stuff.

May 08 mommas! Did your water break?

I can't answer yet Oliver is still cooking in there. But yeah lets see it! If you are in our ddc and this labor started with water breaking lets see it!!! I gotta go find what the statistics are for comparison...of the "general" preganant population.

Yeah, me neither. But I'm very curious! I think it's 11%. I remember reading that somewhere.

Yup. Started w/ water breaking. W/dd1, having an AROM was the one and only intervention. Go figure .

Actually, to be fair, I was going through a distressing issue regarding my mother, and in a way I think this is the way my labor needed to be. I could NOT go into labor while still consumed with this issue. Having my water break, and then not having contractions for several hours, and once they started only having super easy and sporadic contractions for many hours gave me the time to put that issue behind me and turn my focus to the birth.

So I kind of think that was how things needed to go.

Mine didn't break this time until about 20 minutes before I starting pushing (about half an hour before he was born). None of my labors have started with my water breaking -- in fact, they've never broken before 7 cm of dilation.

Mine didn't break until 10 cm while I was pushing. And then it broke in a big way!

mine broke when baby was about two inches from coming out. It felt like a water balloon bursting on my labia. Very strange, even a bit painful. It was a water birth so my little man went from the bag to about two minutes later, the water in the tub. Kinda cool. My mw examined the bag afterwards and said it was a very sturdy bag!

Yep!

Yes, my water broke but didn't start labor on it's own so my midwife broke the small bulge that remained over his head which started intense labor right away.

I think most of our mamas whose water did break are now otherwise occupied! Hopefully they check in, I thought the numbers we had were very high too.

My water never broke with either of mine until about 2 minutes before they crowned! #1 would have been born in the sac, I think, but my MW broke it to relieve the pressure.

My water broke with the last 2 when I started pushing. With #1 it broke while the dr was checking me and with #2 we broke it because we thought he was late and the mw wanted to check for meconium.

Don't know yet!

I was fully dialated and pushing before mine broke....same as my birth with dd...

This is really interesting! It will be fun when everyone has had a chance to answer the poll.

I'm betting I answer no, when the time finally comes, because mine never has before (till pushing).

With this pregnancy, yes, my water broke at the start at labor. First time for me cause with my other 2 kids they broke my water at the hospital.

Nope, for all 3 babies. They broke it with this one at 9 cm and my body immediately started pushing him out.

Two more mamas today had their water break... or am I missing someone. This is crazy!!

I reached down and felt it- I thought it was her skull at first (no hair?) and a mere 30 minutes later she was out!

Same here, except it was #2 that was almost born in the caul.

Haven't had my May baby yet though, so I didn't vote
