music that defines you

When I hear a new album that I love, I'll listen to it over and over again... for months on end. They come to define periods in my life.

Now it's "We Were Here" by Joshua Radin

Last year it was "Garden Ruin" by Calexico and a few months of My Chemical Romance mixed in...

Sometimes there are just themes that fit so perfectly... what are your defining albums?

"Summerteeth" by Wilco
"The Groop Played Space Age Bachelor Pad Music" by Stereolab
"Reject All American" by Bikini Kill

...3 very different albums from 3 very different defining periods of my life!

fantastic

I'm checking out Wilco, just because it's first, and so far I am diggin it! Who knows... maybe it will be a new favorite! Thanks

No one else? Maybe "defines you" is too strong... how about just "your enduring favorites?"

Citizen Cope!!!

Can't say enough about them! Every waking moment and sideways are among my favorites, but truthfully, they are all great

Indigo Girls and Tori Amos defined alot of my high school years.
My immediate post-partum life is defined by Norah Jones. I love when one of her songs comes on the radio.
And right now I'm totally into Jack Johnson!! Happy, mellow music!

I listened to David Grey, White Ladder continuously for about 3 years.

Maybe, 31-34? My whole engagement, getting married, getting preg soundtrack.

Now I am listening to Nicole Atkins, Neptune City constantly. She is awesome. Very Brill Building.

I'm quickly wearing out my Radiohead "In Rainbows" disc. I've probably listened to it hundreds of times now (literally!), and it hasn't been out all that long... and I didn't even buy it until at least March. I just can't ever get enough of it. I'll reach a point where I finally force myself to take it out of my car cd player, but then I'll end up putting it right back in again.

ahhh.

You guys are all so young!!!!

Sorry, just had to get that out.

Remembering the summer right before high school, when we went to the beach every. single. day. and brought a boom box (in those days they were called "tape decks" ) and listened to Zoso (aka Led Zeppelin IV) over and over and over again, from the moment we walked out the door till the moment we got back. (Unless some PIA in the bus made us turn it off )

Remembering my high school boyfriend who was obsessed with the Clash, but also adored the Sex Pistols, Talking Heads, B-52 and the like ... and put up with my Grateful Dead as long as I didn't make him listen to it ... he was so much fun. The years I spent with him have his musical obsessions as a backdrop. He should RIP.

And the rest of my life has the Grateful Dead as the soundtrack. It's been 30 years since my first show. It's been 15 since my last ... But the song remains the same, as they say (well, Zep did, anyway ) ...
