Deciding on my new machine

Hi everyone,

It's time for me to buy a new sewing machine. I bought a cheapy last year when I decided to teach myself to sew, but it's really messing up a lot and I need a new one. I've narrowed down the selection to two machines. They both seem to be good machines and are in the price range I'm looking at.

Here's the brother machine:

And here's the Singer (It's the 7436 Ingenuity) :

What are your thoughts on the two? Which seems to be the better? I'm really, really wanting the auto tension feature, which the Singer has. The Brother is computerized, so even though it doesn't say it, would it also have the auto tension? So far I think I'm leaning towards the Singer, but I'm just not sure.

Any opinions?

You may or may not have seen these... but I found the sewing machine reviews on patternreview.com very helpful when researching machines.

Sorry I don't have any advice on those particular machines, but maybe one thing to consider is where will you take the machine for service and repair if needed. And, have you done any test sewing on either of them? Sometimes something looks real good on paper, but then IRL.... one may feel better to sew on than the other... kwim?
