Oatmeal in the crockpot

So how do you fix it? I have steel cut oats. I tried a recipe I found online that said 1 cup oats + 4 cups water in the crockpot on low overnight. I added a pinch of salt because I figured I should (though I might have been wrong). Woke up to some horrible watery, crusty, bleeeeeghy mess.

I've also heard of making oatmeal in the crockpot using apple juice to replace all or most of the water. Anyone do it like that? How else do you like your oatmeal?

The recipes I have call for 5 3/4 c water to 3 c oats, and 2 3/4 c water to 1 c oats...so there is a lot less water than what you added. They also have a pinch of salt, so that should be alright.

I just recently found these recipes, so I haven't tried them yet...so I can't answer the rest of your questions...but I hope I helped a little bit!

I think that using less water will definitely help, since the cooked oatmeal was floating in about a gallon of water .

We like this recipe:

1 and 1/2 cup rolled oats
2 cups water
2 cups yogurt (we use maple vanilla)
1 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1 apple chopped up
3 tbsp raisins or more
large soup spoon size spoon of coconut oil

Combine, put on low right before bed and cook for 10-12 hrs or so. It's also good with banana and a pinch of nutmeg instead of the apple.
