MN and standardized testing

We are moving to MN in 2 weeks and I keep seeing references to required standardized testing. How does this work? Who administers the test? How often and who picks the test?
Any MN residents care to shed some light on this?

Who administers the test depends on which one you choose. Lots of people use the Peabody test which has to be administered by someone specially trained, but is a really relaxed experience as tests go. However, there are tests you can administer at home too.

You need to test once a year after your child reaches age 7, but you don't submit the results to anyone.

If neither you or your dh has a bachelors/teaching certificate, they require quarterly report cards which would be a PITB, but aside from that the Minnesota homeschooling laws aren't bad at all.

Here's a link to MHA's website: http://www.homeschoolers.org/minnesota_law_and_forms

(to be clear, I don't live in Minnesota, but I do live very close, and we're considering moving there soon).

I am right on the MN/ND border, on the ND side, but I know our homeschooling group hosts required testing every year.

They aren't required every year, I don't think. Let me go look!

Where are you moving to? I am in the Grand Forks area.

Sorry, defer to Zeldamom!

In ND the tests aren't required every year, but it appears they are in MN.

Zeldamom, where are you?

We are also considering moving to MN after DH graduates and I think generally MN homeschooling laws are less strict than those in ND.
