All of the daycare facility people here are on strike, starting monday, for 2-3 weeks, and probably longer! (That's 140,000 children! The gov't will eventually step in if it doesn't resolve in a few weeks.) But in the meantime, everyone who works is scrambling to find help over this long period.
I sent the following email to my folks, who live on the opposite side of the pond, and therefore only get to see their grandkids once a year.
BABYSITTER WANTED
For:
One sweet, charming, kind, sensitive, shy little boy, who likes trains and tractors, slides and swings, computer games and books and hugging his sister
One highly enjoyable, talkative, intense, independent, exciting and limit pushing little girl, who likes anything her big brother is into, cars and bears, slides and swings, dancing and teasing her brother
When: Now One or two weeks. (Daycare on strike for 1-5 weeks total)
Benefits:
Airfare, transportation, all meals provided….
grand kids get to learn better english and know it isn't just mommy who speaks funny
Sunny weather (actually fabulous right now)
Only one child is still in diapers, though the other one may have accidents.
Grand children and grandparents get to know each other, as opposed to just being people who live on that bump above florida.
OK, I seriously doubt you have the time or inclination, and with your busy schedules, you probably already have a million plans. But if you are free the next two weeks, with nothing better to do, and have the energy and desire to watch the kids for some of those days, then please come.
Yes, this was meant as humor, but also seriously.
Allison
Oh my! They called me at midnight last night, having read the mail, and booked tickets over here for next week. How cool is that!? My kids grandparents rock!
