annoying article in parenting magazine...

Letting kids co-sleep is listed as a "bad habit" that "needs to be broken" in this month's issue of parenting magazine. Why can't they recognize that co-sleeping is a healthy choice that many parents make?? Grrr...annoying.

I agree.
There also was another article in - I think - one of the last Baby Talk magazines with a "success story" about getting baby to sleep.....by letting her cry it out. It was a detailed description....reading it made me sick

I read both articles this month. Why? I guess I wanted to see what the mainstream folk are being taught about cosleeping. UGH. As if we didn't get enough funny looks by colseeping and not letting our children CIO.

WHY WHY WHY do the "experts" continually try to teach new parents that the "right" way to do things (i.e. ONLY way) is solo crib sleeping and sleep training?

I just get/kep the magazines for some of the family fun/food ideas and the coupons......you can forget most of the parenting advice

That's why when people tell me about how much sleep they lost making bottles and rocking their little ones I say what a waste of time it is for all of them. They are torturing themselves and their child, when nursing and co-sleeping would make everyone's lives easier and happier!
They'll never learn as long as Formula companies have so much control!

I can't take any parenting advice seriously in a magazine full to the brim with ads for formula, disposable diapers and Baby Genius videos. BAH!

We let our 11 month old shred it for us. That's exactly what he thinks of their article.

Yeah, I read that too and was annoyed. But not as annoyed as when my good friend told me her ped gave her a handout at her 4 month appt. that said babies that age should be able to sleep 11 to 12 hours and if they are still waking up in the middle of the night, it is a habit and the parents are "feeding" the habit. And then she told me that they let her CIO. SAD!!!

I got the same advice at my firstborn's 4-month checkup, and I thought, "Uh, YOU come to my house and try to get my baby to sleep without nursing him." I ignored him and made plans to attend my first LLL meeting.

I still don't understand why so many people put so much stock in parenting advice from M.D.s.

I love my ped because he has NEVER said anything like that to me and actually defended me to an intern for not wanting to start solids until closer to 1 year, saying that he and his wife didn't do solids with their kids till 9 months. HA! Take that
