I need your opinion on yarn

I want to make fingerless gloves for my Sdad. I want them to be something he actually wears frequently so I am looking for a good durable manly yarn. I was wanting to use this pattern http://knitty.com/ISSUEspring07/PATTdashing.html. I am having a hard time deciding on yarn. I found this http://hyenacart.com/prod_details.php?id=48474&vid=9 which I thought would be gorgeous but I wasn't sure how durable it would be and if it would work for the gauge. Do you think the yarn would work? Is there another yarn you would suggest if not this one? Also do you think the pattern is manly enough? My Sdad is a rough and tumble farm guy. Not that he is resistant to wearing pink I just don't think he would buck hay in it .

It's listed as a guy pattern so I think you'll be good.

Wow, I love the pattern and I love the yarn. With that yarn, they may not be great for heavy duty work gloves, but I think the Rambouillet will give them enough durability to work as everyday gloves. The description says it's nice for slippers, which need felt-resistant yarn. That would make some really special gloves. Otoh, a solid or heather might allow the cables to stand out better, and might be more masculine, too. Peace Fleece would be great. Why not make a pr out of the hand dyed for yourself to practice?

I really like the pattern!

Love the pattern, love the yarn, wouldn't put that colourway on those gloves. Have confidence in your yarn and your knitting and let the beauty of the pattern shine through.
FWIW, if it were me then I'd go with naturally coloured or naturally dyed BFL- and the pattern is on my knit list

I think the pattern would get lost in that yarn. It is really pretty though!

Yeah the pattern would kind of get lost wouldn't it. I had picked the pattern because it was the only one I could really find that used worsted yarn and fit a large male hand. I do like the cableling though so I will probably get an nice heathered yarn. Thanks!
