How much did your divorce cost and how long did the process last from filing papers to final papers signed?

Thank you so much.

I'm guessing that I'll pay at least $8K in legal fees for a divorce which thus far has very little acrimony. I live in a very high cost of living area -divorce lawyers charge about $350-375/hour. STBX will pay his own lawyer - definitely a lot less though since my lawyer is doing most of the paperwork. It has been about 3 months since we retained lawyers. I'm thinking it will be another month or so before we're legally separated. One year after that, our divorce will be finalized.

I qualified for Legal Aid, since I've been a SAHM and am now a student, and it's based on my income alone, not our family income. I'll only be paying $80/hour for my lawyer. I expect this to take a lot of effort, as my ex is...special, to say the least, but at least I'm not paying the $250/hour he's forking over. I hope it'll come in at under $3K for me when it's all said and done. From my understanding, it will take about 15 months from start to finish for the separation and divorce.

Thank you! This is very helpful. $3k I can handle. Some figures I've seen from my research are upwards of $25k. There are so many variables...level of contention, the state you're in, how many assets are involved, etc.

I hope we can do it easily and quickly, and not waste a lot of time and money on it. Time and money should be used for our child.
