and I chanted silently to myself...

"be kind, you JUST had a baby 6wks ago! be kind, you JUST had a baby 6 wks ago!"

the loose skin tightened up again after DD#1.

Will it tighten up again?

all I have to say is you are very, very brave
(my skin didn't tighten up (or start to at least) until ds 2 weaned)

skin?? tightening?? isn't that what one pieces or tankinis are for??

i had actually been planning to se if my maternity halter suit didn't look too ridiculous ... just to avoid shopping for a new suit at this particular moment...

I tried on a bikini (dh loves them so) but I was popping out of the xl top and would look wayyy better in a non-low rise bottom so I need to keep looking. I'm also six weeks out and about choked when I looked in the mirror because I thought my tummy was doing better than it apparently was. LOL. I think it'll tighten back up as long as you keep active and lose any "extra" baby weight.

Screw that I'm wearing DH's surfer shorts and a tee shirt. Im going to be "THAT" girl.

Fortunately, my pre-pregnancy swimsuit still fits just fine. It's a very forgiving style--I was even able to wear it at 7 or 8 months pregnant.

sigh. i'm going to do that this coming week. i got some $$ from relatives and am going to use it to buy a few cute new things to help me get through the summer since none of my regular summer clothes are going to fit me.

as for the belly tightening back up, i think it's really different for everyone. but mine has so far bounced back pretty quickly after both #1 and #2, and now that my uterus has shrunken back down to normal size it's mostly already flat again.... mostly. i attribute what's left to needing to retone those abdominal muscles - i've got a pretty good separation of the rectus abdominus right now - and also the extra 20 pounds i'm carrying.

i like OA's suggestion of shorts and a t-shirt. i might try that if i'm going to be swimming in public. but we have a pool at our house and no nearby neighbors, so i'd rather not have unsightly tan marks down to my knees and elbows so i don't really care too much what it looks like as long as it fits and i can get my boobs out relatively easily to nurse. my skinny bathing suit is a halter-style tankini, and that worked great for nursing (and for covering tummies) so i'm going to see if i can find another like that.

exactly. my motto has been 'babies happen, stretch marks happen, measuring 51 weeks happens, and tankinis happen'

I'd love to know what style that is!
I need to invest in that style
I plan to buy a cute retro looking 1 peice from urban outfitters for this summer.
Gosh, I haven't worn a 1 peice since I was like, 11!
I HATE my new muffin top!

It's a one-piece that I got from Lane Bryant 2 or 3 years ago. The main feature is that it has a halter neck that you tie. By adjusting how tight I tie the neck, I can add or take away fabric from the torso. So, when I was pregnant, I tied it looser to allow more more fabric for my stomach, and after DS was born, I tied it tighter again. The swimsuit is also is made of a really stretchy fabric, stretchier than swimsuits I've had in the past, so it allows for more body expansion.

I've been wondering what type of suit to get. What works well with nursing?

My body looks like a Jackson Pollock. I gained 52 lbs and have 14 to go though you wouldn't tell by looking at this weird flabby pouch that is my belly. The skin there is crepey and I still have that damn linea negra. I have stretch marks everywhere, stomach boobs hips thigh calves....everywhere. I have had a rash on my chest for weeks. I am scared I will never look like a girl again. bathing suits are a not in this lifetime. i will consider a wetsuit.

I need to buy a swimsuit... badly. All I have are skimpy bikinis from before the baby and I think they would scar for life anyone who saw me in them!! However, we have a pool that I really want to use! I want to try and find a funky fun one piece...

I bought one yesterday. A bikini.....yikes. I was kind to myself and told meyself that everyone will be looking at the baby anyways. I will be spending the summer holidays in a very very hot place where nobody knows me but my inlaws. The suit also only cost $20 at Superstore, so it wasn't a huge investment.

yeah all my prebaby suits are bikinis... maternity suit is halter tankini - open in the back, wraparound front, and realllllly high waisted bottoms

i'm within 10 lbs of my prepreg weight, but the belly is still crepey and pouchy, i think a close-fitting tankini will do me fine.

and there's always sarongs....
