I sent a proposal to our local ABC affiliate tv station to produce a natural parenting television show. Here is a copy of the e-mail I sent them:
Good afternoon.
An e-mail I sent to Ms. Supon this morning set me thinking. I would like to propose an idea for a show with a format similar to Home & Backyard and Pa. Outdoor Life for parents. There is a wealth of mainstream parenting information available mostly paid for by formula and disposeable diaper companies. However, there is a large, diverse, and growing community of individuals practicing a natural parenting approach. Natural parenting encompasses a great many practices including breastfeeding, natural childbirth/midwifery, cloth diapering, child wearing, co-sleeping, gentle discipline, alternative medicine, whole foods diet, and many other beliefs/practices. A half hour show dealing with these topics would be a wonderful resource for a great many families. There are a few written publications on these topics, such as the series of books by Dr. William Sears, and Mothering magazine. I envision a show with guests such as La Leche League leaders, midwives, doctors, nurses, etc to discuss these topics, interviews with parents and their children who practice some of these things, and maybe a question and answer or audience participation type of segment. I would love to provide input and supply resources/research to contribute to the development of a show such as this. Please consider this idea and let me know if I could be of any assistance to you.
