What's your favorite type of sock heel?

I think my favorite is a gusset with a slip stitch heel. But it can be tricky to figure out sometimes...it just seems like a really good long lasting heel to me.

What's your fave?

I always work two socks at one using the magic loop - going toe up. I use the short row heel every time. I didn't like the pair I made cuff down with gussets.

My favorite is from Cookie A's Baudelaire - it's a toe-up heel that starts with the gusset, has a rounded heel (think the first half of a short-row heel) where you work all the stitches in one fell swoop and then a short-row heel flap (I usually do a twisted rib). I've done this twice now and it looks almost identical to a top-dow heel flap heel, but with none of that messy picking up stitches that I can't stand. It is also really easy for me to adjust it to accomodate my high instep. Here's a picture of it on my Pomatomus sock..

From my understanding, it's not too different from Wendy's toe-up gusset heel, but I think Cookie's is way better looking.

ooooh - is that what you call it when you just do the first half of a short row heel? I've been doing that with the slip stitch heel - I just didn't know what it was called!

It's almost the same but you still wrap the stitches in a rounded heel and pick up and work the wraps.

I like the heel construction on this toe up pattern. I'm partial to Wendy's stuff period though.

I am doing my first basic short row pair right now though and I am loving it. Nice and simple and a good fit! I actually started the second sock AND made it past the toe for once.
