As per my other thread, bleeding for 30+ days now... my OB wants me to come in for an endometrial biopsy. Anyone ever had one? is it terribly painful? What have been your experiences? Thanks for any insights.

Hi Erin- I had one a few months ago. Sorry to tell you, but it was the most unpleasant experience I've had at the gyn. Maybe that was because I declined the valium the doc offered? I was sort of weak afterwards; you might want to have someone there to drive home if needed.

Did you have the straw procedure? Or something else?
I've read stories that border on horror and some people say it was no biggie. Now I'm not sure what's going to happen.
I have read to take some advil prior which I will probably do. As long as I don't pass out or vomit I think I'll be okay
Anyone else have the procedure done?

I just had one about six weeks ago. I had been bleeding/spotting for almost 8 weeks at that point.
It was uncomfortable, but not awful, for me. The worst part for me was when the straw was inserted through the cervix -- I felt extremely nauseaus, dizzy and just not good. It only lasted for a few moments, luckily.
I went by myself and was easily able to drive myself home.

If this is the same as an endo cerivical curttage, then I've had quite a few. This biopsy was to biopsy the birth canal part of the cervix-not just the face.
I have had some that were the worst experiences of my life and some that were not worse than a pap. Honestly, it depends on who is doing it. I've never been offered valium though. If it was offered, I sure would take it!
On the plus side, it is a quick procedure.
Good luck!

I had one last summer as the result of persistent gestational trophoblastic disease following a molar pregnancy. It was uncomfortable and unpleasant but fairly quick. I did need to lie down for a few minutes after as I got dizzy and nauseous. But after a few minutes of rest and a cup of water I was fine and was able to drive myself home in Boston traffic. I think I took some Advil when I got home as I had a bit of cramping.
Best of luck-
Susan

Well I had mine yesterday and my cervix was wide open which was helpful. When she was in there twirling and suctioning it was very painful and uncomfortable but at least it was short. afterward I felt a little shaky and nauseous but she just had me lie down for a few minutes and I was fine. I did have some mild cramping later and just took some advil. Feel fine now.

Glad it went quickly for you Erin! Here's hoping the test results are good as well.
