How do you find raw milk in the UK?

Ok, I've been looking now for MONTHS. Nobody in my area seems to do it anymore, just some farms down south, near London. I went to the seeds of health web site and got nowhere with the producers listed. I'm in North Yorkshire but would be willing to travel a bit to get the raw stuff.

If you don't know where to get any here have you had success going directly through somebody you met (US/UK/etc)? If so how did you "hook up" with them?? Just trying to get some ideas here, the whole NT/TF thing isn't really very big in my neck of the woods.

Thanks!

I'm in London and haven't had much luck either. There's a NT-UK email list on Yahoo. Are you on that? You might also want to check the farmer's market finder website.

Here are a couple of lists of suppliers but they all seems to be quite a long way from you:

You can sometimes buy raw goats milk (frozen) online but it has been out of stock everywhere for ages so perhaps it has been discontinued.

Spoke too soon about it being out of stock - red23 has raw goats milk, yogurt, cheeses (goats and cows), raw cows milk butter, HV butter oil, fermented CLO (but the prices on those last two about slayed me so make sure you are sitting down if you look), loads of coconut products - a tf dream!.

Raw milk cheese is fairly easy to get. Most supermarkets carry one or two lines and good cheese shops will have loads.

Hope that helps

I realize this isn't very helpful, but my father gets his raw dairy from a farm in Suffolk.

I'm in central London and get my raw milk (and other dairy) from several area farmer's markets: Islington, Broadway, Stoke Newington, Spitalfields, Archway all have it. Some you have to ask the butchers for it--they don't display it. Some are from dairy farmers who also sell milk, butter, cheese, yogurt, and sometimes meat. More info is on the London farmer's mkts website: www.lfm.org.uk.

Sorry I can't be more helpful on sources outside of my area.

Thanks for the links everybody! I did try to go to one farmer's market in Masham but it was kinda a bust. Most of the people treated it like a car boot (flea market for Americans) and just set up random crap or stuff that "fell off the truck". There was one woman there selling dairy but she told me that it was illegal to sell raw milk in the UK (she wasn't correct) but I got that from a lot of people around here, they just assumed it was still illegal/banned.

Will certainly try out some more markets since that seems to be the way to go.

shendledecker do you get raw butter at those farmers markets? i've been to pimlico and nottinghill farmers markets and although i can get raw milk and cream but all the farm butter i've found is pasturised even from the raw milk sellers stalls, are the butchers you are talking about stalls at the markets or actual butchers shops? i also went to milford market in surrey they had raw milk and cheese but butter again was pasturised. i'd love to know if you can get raw butter at a london farmers market.

covertly crunchy sorry i can't help either as to where you get raw milk in north yorks, red23 is a great shop its right near my parents house although it is expensive, but they do have the raw dairy products which you can order online. what about if there is an organic dairy farm nearby and asking if they can sell you some raw milk? there is a directory published by 'greenbooks' called something like the organic directory and it lists by areas.
