Another HB here. This will be my second one. We had a waterbirth with DS and everything was so wonderful, I think we will be doing the same thing this time around. So nice to see how many HB mamas there are out there!

We are planning a homebirth. My first was a hospital birth, if you can call it that! I was complete when I got there and she was born less than an hour later. So we decided we could skip the hospital this time!

Thanks for all the replies. That, too, was one of my fears because I have heard that (1) it is hellishly painful to be induced and (2) I would have to deliver at a hospital...

Another first time mom planning a homebirth. I am so excited about it. I love my midwife and I love going to my appointments. I am doing co care right now with my OB mainly so that I can get all my testing and ultrasounds covered under my insurance. I had an appointment with him today and told him that I am planning a homebirth. Surprisingly, he seemed pretty ok with it. He did say that he thought it was better to labor and deliver at a hospital "just in case" but he also said that I am very low risk and in all likelyhood I will labor and deliver just fine at home. Not bad for an OB.

I had an OB that seemed okay with a HB and then a week later I got a letter saying he was dropping me from his care.

Planning my 4th hb now. We've just had our second prenatal with our midwife and I'm liking her a lot (moved away from the mw I used with my first three, which was sad!)

I'm looking forward to the birth and starting to work on some birth visualizations and such

We made a mural of home birth pictures and it's right on the wall in the middle fo the livingroom. It's really helping me acclimate to the idea of being THAT naked, as well as visualize. And i think it's helping my almost 2 year old understand. She points to the pictures and says "da baby come out!"

Me, me! I'm planning a homebirth. Last was a transport to hospital but feeling peaceful about this one now. So glad you started this thread!

We are planning an HBAC, probably at Midwife's house/office. I just need to dump my OB now that I've set up everything with my midwife. I'm so looking forward to this, as dd was an emergency C-section.

not that it's necessary, but i will verify for you this is true. being induced was AWFUL and s*cked so badly, and it will definitely NOT happen to me again. :

i hope you are able to have a good conversation with your MW about going past 42w.

triple07: Definitely figure out with your midwife about the being late thing. I was induced with my 1st at 9 days (dr/hospital birth). It was absolutely terrible (pitocin up and down, up and down, contractions on top of contractions, yuck). Having a midwife for the 2nd, she was 10 days late and I took castor oil, because I DID NOT want to go to a Dr. Where I live, state law says a midwife has to take her patient in to an OBGYN, if she is 42 weeks, to get checked out (on their terms of course) to see if baby is okay and subsequently every two days after that. I was so freaked out about going, that I kind of self induced with castor oil, which wasn't that bad and worked for me. Just make sure what you are facing ahead of time so it doesn't pop up on you if you are "late".

double post, sorry. . .

I am due the first week of November but I post here as well.

This will be our first homebirth. DS was born at 36+3 so I am trying not to worry about reaching 42 weeks... but in the past few weeks two moms from another board who had 36 weekers have just gone over their EDD, so I can't count on that, but I'm still hoping my uterus bakes them faster! I haven't looked into the laws but my mw told me that legally, she has to transfer my care to her backup OB at 42weeks.

Yes!

I keep *starting* to order it, and *starting* to make a list of all the other stuff I'd like to have on hand, but keep reminding myself that we're moving in a couple of weeks and that having to remember which box my pregnant logic decided to pack things away in would, uhm, probably suck.

So to satisfy that urge I go count, fold, and re-fold all the old towels and receiving blankets we'll be using.

^ You guys are cute. I'm just buying things here and there so everything isn't in one lump. We have two more payments to make to our MW and we'll be done so I 'll start after that.

Ok, so I am feeling really unprepared for the "home" birth part of this birth. I got the whole birth part down, but I think I need to read up on how to get prepared for a home birth. Any good book referrals out there? I am sure my mw will clue me in soon, but I still feel like I haven't the slightest clue what needs to get done...
