T-shirt decorating ideas. Pics added #5.

I bought a bunch (7) of t-shirts for dd. (I got them for like a $1 a piece brand new
last fall). She'll be at the YMCA day camp all summer, and I wanted her to have
clothes she can get dirty in.

I also have a small collection of patches, iron ons, t-shirt paint. I want to decorate
some of the shirts, and make them special for dd.

Dd loves mermaids so I thought I'd do that on one. I like to cross stitch so I'm going
to stitch something simple on another.

So I have some ideas of what I'd like to do, but I know you Mama's have wonderful
ideas so I thought I would pick your brains too.

If any of them are coloured you can cut out shapes, letters, whatevers out of thick paper or old plastic bags. Lay them on the t-shirt in a pleasing way. Put bleach & water in a spray bottle & spray around the cutouts. You end up with the area outside of the cutouts bleached out & the shapes pop out in the original colour.

Of course if you don't like bleach I'm not sure what else might work to do this.

how about freezer paper stenciling? Something like what was done in this blog? You could find a mermaid stencil?

YAY thank you both. I love these ideas. It will be nice to try something
different on each shirt, so they don't all "look" the same, you know. YAY.

The rainbow I'm embroidering on one shirt is coming out much better than
expected. That shirt should be done by tonight.

I did find a nice mermaid to use as a template on the internet, but I wasn't
quite sure what method I would use to get it on a t-shirt. I think the freezer
paper idea will be perfect.

I have bleach in the house, and that idea would really be cool with the black
t-shirt I have. I have a friend who used to paint with bleach on t-shirts,
they always came out really nice.

With all these cool ideas, I might never use the iron ons I have. teehee.

I'll post pics when I'm done to show how they turned out.

I posted pics of the 3 t-shirts we got done.

Dd did a flower shirt that turned out really cute. The mermaid shirt I used wax paper to create stencils (thanks Caittune). Then I embrodered a rainbow on another shirt.

3 down 4 to go.
