I'm starting a local branch and need to order a few books. I can't afford too many, so I want to get the best. Suggestions?

Mothering Your Nursing Toddler by Norma Jean Bumgartner (I think I spelled that last name wrong)
this is a great book that talks about all the relevant issues to nursing beyond infanthood
Adventures in Tandem Nursing
probably not a must for a starter library, but pretty much the book to have for anybody interested in tandem nursing

The No-Cry Sleep Solution and How to Talk to Kids Will Listen and How to Listen so Kids Will Talk are both big "sellers" in our library.

:Well, I've got some books, but that's about as far as I've gotten. I can't imagine getting done in less than six months. I'm going to be holding meetings at my place and at the Rodney OEYC when the time comes. And not only are you invited, I expect you to be treasurer or something!

For a basic library, I think you want a few in different categories that will cover all 4 meeting topics. Of course you have the Womanly Art of Breastfeeding, but I'd also say things that cover some of the big things people might have questions about: birthing, fussy baby, nighttime parenting, toddler nursing/nutrition/weaning, gentle discipline. Maybe start off with the things geared more towards infants and move more towards the older children and family dynamics later. Although the Sears Becoming a Father book is pretty popular in our library. And their Gentle Discipline book is too, I think.
Maybe print out the bibliography from the LLLI website, and see if you can find some of the books for cheap or free through used books stores, library sales or freecycle.

I really like to lend out So That's What They're For" and also LLL has at least one short book full of photographs that people seem to like (though it's not as new), I think it's called Breastfeeding Pure and Simple or something like that... have you thought about ordering used books on amazon.com? that's how I've built up my childbirth class library over time...
