Tandeming my 2 week old and 4.5 year old over here. It's going really well, at first there was a bit of drama coz babe didn't gain weight between days 4 and 6, but I switched up the tandeming thanks to some advice from the midwife and in the bf forum. I was just popping whoever on, whenever, and I started nursing babe first then my older child. Duh, not sure why I didn't think of that in the first place but I was so used to nursing my big girl whenever she asked, and I thought babe was getting lots of milk (which she might have been and the weigh thing may have been a fluke, who knows).
Anyway between days 6 and 8 babe gained 6 oz - woohoo!! And she gained another 7.5 oz in the 6 days since so I'm feeling really good about that. My big DD has been understanding about the baby nursing first thing, but doesn't like that I will nurse babe wherever we are out and I won't nurse her. I explained that baby can't have real food and I used to nurse her everywhere too, but the rules for nursing big kids are different and yada yada.
I need to get some pics of them both nursing - I'm a single mama though and usually have my hands pretty full when we're nursing so I'll have to recruit someone to take a picture. I think nursing both is really nice for them and facilitates bonding. My older DD is convinced babe learned how to nurse by watching her big sis, and she often explains to the baby how to do it, and holds her hand while they nurse, etc. It's pretty nice.
Anyone else with me?

) The only thing that is driving me crazy is that dd wants to nurse as much as my newborn. She was only nursing 2-3x a day before, so I hope that she'll go back to that...some moms from La Leche have told me that the first couple of weeks their older child nursed tons and then went back to normal...here's hoping! I think it might be better once we go back to getting out more because she hasn't nursed outside of the house for a long time.
