Tandeming mamas - How is it going?

Tandeming my 2 week old and 4.5 year old over here. It's going really well, at first there was a bit of drama coz babe didn't gain weight between days 4 and 6, but I switched up the tandeming thanks to some advice from the midwife and in the bf forum. I was just popping whoever on, whenever, and I started nursing babe first then my older child. Duh, not sure why I didn't think of that in the first place but I was so used to nursing my big girl whenever she asked, and I thought babe was getting lots of milk (which she might have been and the weigh thing may have been a fluke, who knows).

Anyway between days 6 and 8 babe gained 6 oz - woohoo!! And she gained another 7.5 oz in the 6 days since so I'm feeling really good about that. My big DD has been understanding about the baby nursing first thing, but doesn't like that I will nurse babe wherever we are out and I won't nurse her. I explained that baby can't have real food and I used to nurse her everywhere too, but the rules for nursing big kids are different and yada yada.

I need to get some pics of them both nursing - I'm a single mama though and usually have my hands pretty full when we're nursing so I'll have to recruit someone to take a picture. I think nursing both is really nice for them and facilitates bonding. My older DD is convinced babe learned how to nurse by watching her big sis, and she often explains to the baby how to do it, and holds her hand while they nurse, etc. It's pretty nice.

Anyone else with me?

Awwwww!! How cute is that?!?

I agree you should get some pictures. I'm not tandeming, but I bet DS will want a taste.

I am nursing dd (10 days old) and dd (2 1/2)... I was really nervous about baby's weight gain since we had trouble with older dd gaining weight when she was a babe, but we went to the ped's on Monday and she was 8 lbs 10 oz...9 oz more than her birth weight on day 8 of her life!! The ped couldn't believe it and even reweighed her....so she is doing great!

I honestly never planned to tandem nurse and just kind of hoped dd would wean at the end of my pregnancy, but that never happened, so here we are... I love watching them hold hands and dd is really sweet (as long as I nurse them both at the same time, which believe me takes some acrobatics) The only thing that is driving me crazy is that dd wants to nurse as much as my newborn. She was only nursing 2-3x a day before, so I hope that she'll go back to that...some moms from La Leche have told me that the first couple of weeks their older child nursed tons and then went back to normal...here's hoping! I think it might be better once we go back to getting out more because she hasn't nursed outside of the house for a long time.

I would love some pics too...dh keeps coming in while they're nursing and saying "That's so sweet...I'd take a picture if it wasn't obsence..." What??!?! Now I'm not going to mail them out to relatives or anything, but I'll definitely be taking one for me and for my girls

I'm nursing an almost 3 week old and my 2.5 year old. It's going really well, and ds#3 is being really sweet about sharing the "nu-nus" with Baby Quinn (he calls him Baby Kin). He has REALLY stepped up the nursing, though, and doesn't like it when I turn him down in public.

I need to get some pics, too. Ds#3 loves to pat the babe while nursing, and hold his hand (which is sooo much better than the belly button poking that he subjected me to whilst I was preggo!!!).
