eta: see what a movie dunce i am?!?! this post was supposed to be about searching for a PG movie... not a G movie!!

so, somehow I was chosen to choose the PG movie that will be shown at our community's movie night. me....!?! the person who has seen exactly 4 movies at the theatre in the last 15 years. yeah, i'm not exactly a movie person.

so..it can't be animated and it has to be PG rated. it will be shown to an audience ranging from probably about 6-8 years old up to adults...
any suggestions???
it can't be Pg-13!!
i downloaded a list of about 300 PG movie titles, but since i've seen maybe 3 of them, i'm at a loss. i'm desperate here. help!

Does it have to be a recent movie? I'm thinking that everyone might enjoy something like "National Velvet" or "Singing in the Rain." A lot of movies for adults from the 40s and 50s are G-rated!

The Red Balloon!

or Willy Wonka.

can you link to this list you've found

What about something like Benji or Secret of Roan Inish or Incredible Journey? Or Because of Winn Dixie? I'm thinking some animal story might be good.

Not sure what your demographic is but here are some ideas:

Annie
The Kid
E.T.
March of the Penguins
The Goonies
Hook
The Princess Bride
Meet Me in St. Louis
The Parent Trap (I like the original version)

Oh, The Princess Bride is lovely! Also, The Black Stallion I'm pretty sure is PG.

Other possibilities:

Some Like It Hot
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (grown-ups like it too!)
Meet Me in St. Louis

The Neverending story

ok, if it can be a PG movie, I HIGHLY recommend Little Manhattan-wonderful, wonderful little movie:

The Water Horse.
Back to the Future.

Also check out imdb.com for lots of movie summaries, ratings, etc.

Fly Away Home

Jumanji

Willow

Chronicles of Narnia
I second Jumanji, Annie and the Princess Bride!

E.T. and the Goonies are PG, but it's a very relaxed PG. Both have penis jokes and some off-color language.

I think the Princess Bride or Fly Away home are great choices.

Far From Home: The Adventures of Yellow Dog.

I love this movie.

I have to say I second the Princess Bride, it's something everyone could enjoy. I also have to second Because of Winn Dixie. I read the book and saw the movie - and both were great. (The movie stuck close to the book. I always like that)

"Akeelah and the Bee" is rated PG and I haven't met a soul yet that didn't love it! Its a wonderfully inspiring story of a young girl in South LA in a spelling bee

Bridge to Teraebithia
Babe

Ooh, I found an interesting web site. It lists movies by rating and by year. So I specified PG, 2005, and this is the result:

Box Office Mojo

You could pick a movie (Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe, for example) and then check it out at Kids In Mind.

I would go with Princess Bride. Great movie!
