Yarn Amount

I have been making medium shorties out of Cestari Fine Merino and 4 oz has been enough for a medium pair. I have a yarn that is listed Montana Worsted Weight that is 4 oz but it looks thinner than the Cestari. Will they make the same size of shorts? I am endlessly confused on how much yarn I need for a project.

Do you know the yardage for the two yarns?
Comparing the oz to the yardage should give you an idea of if they're pretty equivalent.

I don't know the yardage for the Cestari. The Montana is 280 yards. If one is thinner though won't it have more yards for the same weight?

According to this: http://www.yarndex.com/yarn.cfm?yarn_id=2045 the Cestari is 210 yards.

So, if you knit them at the same gauge, you should have enough of the Montana (since it's longer).
