I want to make some sort of master schedule of things that need to be done to help my family and me stay on track with getting things done around here. Is there a website that might have a detailed list, as specific as possible, of things that generally need to be done in each room of the house and in what frequency? I'd like to make a daily, weekly, monthly, etc list for each room. Any good sources? I know I'd have to add and subtract based on my own needs, but I'd love a good starting place.

Martha Steward's (shudder) Housekeeping book has really good master lists. I personally do FlyLady (flylady.net) although I personally don't do the control journal she suggests.

You can also try Flylady. Look at the control journal for a schedule and tasks.

I'm doing flylady, kinda, and liking it. I took some of her ideas and combined them with what I needed/wanted. So here's what I do....

Each day of the week (not weekends) has a specific room. Whatever room it is that day gets a good once over cleaning (vaccum, quick dust, put everything back in it's place, etc). That gets the house looking decent. Then each week of the month has a specific room that gets deep cleaned. You do little things throughout the week, not one huge cleaning of that room.

So, for example, Monday is the hall/stairs/office. Tuesday is living room/dining room. Wednesday is bedrooms. Thursday is bathrooms. Friday is kitchen. This week is focusing on the master bedroom, just doing little things to get it cleaner.

This has really really helped me and I LOVE being able to wake up on Saturday to a clean house!

I started with flylady. A wonderful resource for those who just need someone to tell them what to do.
Now I have adapted different things from flylady and from avirtuouswoman.org. and finding what works for my family.

http://www.realsimple.com/realsimple...033650,00.html I found this list useful to break things down into daily/weekly/monthly/seasonal tasks. I think the times posted on there are unrealistic, especially for a busy mama! I copied and pasted this onto one page as a quick guide to look at.

Another similar idea is http://www.realsimple.com/realsimple....html?cid=fsr1, but it is laid out differently as a chart, so it may suit some better visually.

The "slob sisters"(can't remember their real names). They wrote some books and they have an index card system.

I really like knittinintheshade's cleaning list.

She has her 'brain files' listed on the Tuesday Tutorial blog. They are excellent. It's a www.littleturtleknits.com/blog

Butting in here - what is my problem with Flylady? Everyone seems to love it, but I have signed up a couple of times then rapidly unregistered - I can't STAND all those e-mails, and the site itself defines "cluttered". Is it just me?

i agree with you.
somebody should help them make a better website, and the emails are annoying.

but i think they have many good ideas. it seems very individual what ideas we actually like and incorporate ourselves. i have learned alot.

to find what i am looking for and get the most out of their page i use this: http://flylady.com/pages/TableOfContents.asp

.less is more.

i am getting motivated by this thread.
thank you all.

I'm an off again on again Flybaby. I subscribe to the 'Daily Digest' which means I only get one e-mail a day. I can handle that. Usually I just check the daily mission to remind me of things that need doing. Otherwise, I've kind of made my own schedule based on flylady principles.

I hate the flylady email system. Both the daily digest, and teh mass emailing. But her principles are great.

Flylady was way too cluttered and messy for me. Another in the same stream of decluttering/organising/managing/less-is-more site that I appreciate more is Cindy's Porch. http://www.cindysporch.com/ I was just told of another one to check out, but I haven't looked at it yet. www.messies.com Not sure if it has lists like you are asking about, but it is about cleaning and organising.
