newborn chiro visits?

So I have to preface this by saying that I am extremely skeptical of all chiropractors. I even have 2 that are friends and they always think there is something wrong with you, ya kwim? That being said, there is something wrong with Link that our midwife thinks we should go and have him adjusted or have craniosacral therapy done. He came out with his head cocked a little funny and now he is having some latch issues on one side. He has also had his hand turn blue once and his foot turn blue 3 times all on the same side.
My question is when(if) you have taken your baby in, do they try and make you come to a never ending amount of appointments? I am trying to find one that is covered by our insurance, but it will still be a $25 copay for every visit, and we really cannot afford too many of those.
Thanks in advance

I have been trying to get my little one in and just haven't made it yet. I actually want to take all the boys this summer and get them all adjusted for the summer months.

You do have to be cautious I think, but it's with all drs. They will try and 'reel' you in. With a newborn it would seem less likly that you would need a whole bunch of appts. Probably just a monthly check/adjustment. With adults you will sometimes need more frequent appts to get everything back in alignment.

I think a chiro might be able to help with your little ones issues. They are not agressive with little ones at all (the ones I've seen at least).

Good luck!

When I first took my son in, he was about 6 months or so. From what I remember we started out going a couple of times a week at first for maybe 2 weeks, after that we were at every 2 weeks. Since I've been pg, I've gone every week.

I was skeptical at first as well, but since our whole family is now going and I've seen the difference I truly think it works. This is by far the most comfortable pregnancy I've had yet and the best I have felt in years. None of us got sick this past winter, which is a first.

Have you seen this website? icpa? It's a great way to find a chiro certified for infants.

I took DS in when he was 5 days old. He did very well, and the Chiro didn't actually need to do that much. Don't be alarmed if the doc hangs the baby upside down, to see what position it lay in the womb. Mine grasped DS by the thighs, in a seated position, but upside down. It was neat to see him turn his head exactly the way he had been wedged into my body! DS never even cried.

I do trust Chiropractic care, but that's different than trusting all Chiropractors. This one gave free adjustments for the first year, on an as needed basis.

I have an even better one now, he charges one dollar for each year old the child is.

I'm not in your DDC, but I wanted to chime in. My DD had the same issue (trouble latching and laying in certain positions after birth) and we took her to a Doctor of Osteopathy. She was able to manipulate her neck after a few visits and get her nursing. After she was nursing we never went back, no pressure. It was a bit pricey since it wasn't covered by insurance, but I would have done anything to get her to nurse (and it worked!)

Here is a website to find one in your area:

Saw your post and had to drop in to your DDC. I am a chiropractor now after chiropractic literally saved my life ten years ago. (With the exception that in every profession there are some deceptive people...) Chiropractors who recommend lifetime care aren't trying to "reel you in". Chiropractic is about keeping your brain and nervous system healthy. At what point should you just decide not to worry about that? You can't tell how well your body is functioning only by how it feels. A very small percentage of nerves have any feeling. If you truly want to be as healthy as you can be, and of course have your children grow up as healthy as they can, then you should be concerned about being checked by a chiropractor periodically. The technique the chiropractor practices dictates how often they would recommend a "wellness" or preventative check-up. In my practice that's twice a year once any problems are handled. Once a month is probably the most common.

By the way, had I been adjusted when I was an infant (delivered with forceps), I am almost certain I wouldn't have had the problems I had a decade ago that left me bed-ridden for two years until I was adjusted with the technique that I now practice.

I took dd1 to a chiro and it stretched out for a long time and cost a LOT of money. Then I found a different chiro. She's an upper cervical correction chiro, and she said she almost never has to see a child more than 3 times (to resolve a specific problem). After that, I was to bring her in whenever I felt she needed it. And guess what? She DID solve the problem (nursing difficulties). In the first visit. This was after months of visits and nearly a thousand dollars spent at the other chiro (who is very reputable, btw).

I was so impressed I went to see her myself. I have a bad back and have seen numerous chiros over the years. None of them helped and some of them hurt, so I gave up on it. But this woman helped me too!

So, I guess my point is, you have to find the RIGHT chiro. The woman I saw also does CST and has a very holistic approach, which you won't necessarily find with every NUCCA chiro. But I gave the link as a starting point if you're interested.

And I'm a CST junkie anyway, so I'd always recommend that! Both my kids go regularly, and I went before and during my pregnancy to help with the pregnancy and prepare for the birth. Great stuff .

I believe you have to find the 'right' one too. We got very lucky with ours on our first try. She's beyond wonderful and very holistic as well. She helped my second with his Reflux, so much so that we stopped his medication.

She's going to do the CST on our baby once he's born to help with the pressure in his head.

My DH misses half his appt's because of work, he goes twice a month. He can totally tell that he's missed and when he needs to go. She amazes him because she can tell exactly where he's hurting just by feeling his spine or his neck, he doesn't have to tell her. I've had the same experience with her, and I'm not as predictable as he is.

Didn't want to make my post an ad for a specific technique, but after your post I had to reply that NUCCA is the technique that saved my life after trying other chiros and lots of other stuff. That's the technique I do now and have helped many infants with nursing problems. (often on the first visit.)
