Pregnancy and charlie horses

I know some of you have mentioned them before but I never paid attention because I didn't have any. Well...this morning I had one wake me out of a sound sleep (which ticked me off as my mom took the boys so I could sleep in this morning...oh well) and it hurt like hell.

An hour later it still hurts!!

What, if anything, can you do when you get one? Do you stretch your toes toward you or flex them?

haven't been having them since I started Mama Calm.

I generally flex them forcibly by pushing on the floor.

Usually I have to get up and stand up on the floor to flex the muscle. Point toes toward the ceiling. I understand, though, about it staying sore even though the muscle contraction is over.

Sorry you didn't get to sleep in.

Point your toes to your knees. I would recommend Cal/Mag supplement, though. I used to get these all day, and POOF! gone! since I started that.

Ditto the cal/mag. Haven't had a problem since I added that to my daily pills.

It sure does hurt afterwards, doesn't it? I had pain for several days with the one biggie I got.

Big ditto on the cal/mag, can also eat lots o'banana

I always rubbed them out, then flex to work it out.

I feel your pain..I just got one of these last night, I think I've gotten one other bad one this pregnancy. I'm taking calc/mag. It still hurts but not quite as bad as it did an hour or so ago.

If you really flex hard, it should stop and not hurt after.

Mine have stopped totally
Im taking a ton of potassium, 2 calc magnessiums and making sure I am seriously hydrated and they have STOPPED.

I was in tears every night over them so this is awesome.

The funny thing is that I have been taking cal/mag every night for months. I stopped about a week ago because I ran out and haven't been to the hfs. The night I got the charlie horse was the first night I had started taking it again.

My leg still hurts! I thought it would be done by now.

The cal/mag helped mine for most of the pregnancy, but they were still bugging me occasionally. I had some massage/energy work done that helped a lot. I was getting them in my calves and my feet, and the massage therapist said it was related to my kidneys. She did a bunch of energy work on my kidneys, and voila, they went away.

Then I started getting them again towards the end. I found taking the homeopathic mag phos (short for magnesia phosphoricum or something like that) got rid of them almost completely. I could usually feel them "coming on" and that's when I would take it, and the feeling would go away.

Good luck. It sucks to have your sleep interrupted, especially at this stage of the game!
