Well, I didn't even get a chance to consider #2. I found out I was pregnant with Henri when the pregnancy was already 14 weeks along! And Paddy was just 6 months old. I made the best of that very short time I had when it was just me and Paddy. I wore him in the sling all the way through the pregnancy even though it killed my back 
And then Henri was born.... Paddy followed me around the house for about 2 weeks and screamed at me every time I touched Henri, then he went on with life. They are 3 and 2 now and are best friends. Even though they fight and throw things at each other, I know they would be lost without each other (and honestly, its nice to have them keep each other company!)
It wasn't all roses though. I lost my breastfeeding relationship with Paddy during that pregnancy and because he was so young had no choice to but FF him exclusively after that. I pumped as much as I could after Henri was born though!!! It wasn't just having Henri that had compromised our connection though. Paddy's birth was horrible and I was so drugged that I never got the chance to bond with him properly in those early days. It has taken all this time to rebuild those lost connections, and its only very recently that I've begun to feel like we have a healthy relationship and this is 3 years after the birth!
If it were me, I wouldn't wait-especially if I was your age (not sayin you're old, just way older than I'd want to be having babies!) I think you will also be surprised at how much having a sibling brings out so many wonderful things in your older child and how much that experience teaches them about how to relate to others.
