snipping that thing above DS's upper front teeth

I don't know what it's called, but the dentist said that if it's not snipped, his front teeth will have a gap. I looked in DH's mouth (he has a slight gap) and his thing looked snipped (eewww). Any opinions?

My sister had this done and she did have a gap prior - now her teeth are perfectly straight and there is no gap. While she was scared for a brief moment when the procedure was done she said that she didn't really feel much & she is glad to not have that big gap today as an adult.

My dd has a gap and so does my brother. He likes his though so I don't think I would have it snipped (frenulum?).

it is called a frenum. I had mine snipped. it defninitely can cause a diastema (space between the teeth) and it can cause relapse after ortho. diastema drive me nuts, so I'd snip it to avoid that gap!
